What are the Minnesota Timberwolves doing?
After trading away Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets as part of a salary dump, they agreed to a five-year, $112 million deal to keep Ayo Dosunmu in Minnesota.
Then, out of nowhere, they agree to a trade with the Charlotte Hornets to send LaMelo Ball to Minneapolis and pair him alongside Anthony Edwards.
In the deal, the Timberwolves give up fan favorite and the heart of the franchise, Naz Reid, along with a 2033 first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps, and three second-round picks.
Brett, I don't know about you, but I really don't understand what the Timberwolves plan here is with LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, and Ayo Dosunmu on the same team while losing Julius Randle and Naz Reid.
It became apparent this off-season that Julius Randle was gonna be the odd man out, especially after his poor performance in the playoffs.
His salary slot was needed for Tim Connelly and the Timberwolves front office to make a big addition.
But LaMelo Ball?
Definitely a questionable addition for this team.
Although he could provide immediate impact at the point guard position, a position of need for the Timberwolves over the last few years, they now have no front court depth outside of Rudy Gobert.
There is no other big man on this roster who can come in and be the anchor for this team on either end of the floor, and the Timberwolves are pressed for funds right now to find an impactful front court talent next to Rudy Gobert.
While Anthony Edwards is still there and LaMelo Ball is a fantastic player, I have major concerns about the Timberwolves taking a step back and potentially losing Anthony Edwards in the future.
