Tony Vitello Emphasizes Competition in San Francisco Giants Spring Camp
Young San Francisco Giants like Heliot Ramos, Reiver Sanmartin, and Luis Matos are pushing for crucial roster spots.

So obviously, for taking a look for the San Francisco Giants and their spring training outlook, Tony Vitello recently spoke to the media this past morning.
and, you know, really just talked about the emphasis of just being able to have, competition within the group, and certainly just, you know, finding ways to, regroup and, you know, just figure out, you know, what this team's going to sort of look like as spring training rolls around.
you know, he talked about, you know, probably one of the more, you know, key figures within this Giants team, and you know, probably, you know, now more so flying under the radar, especially since, you know, the Giants have a lot more, you know, core pieces within this team.
and that is, of course, going to be Heliot Ramos, left fielder for the Giants.
and you know, really just talking about him, you know, he really just wants him to get back into that twenty twenty-four, you know, form.
you know, that year, he was voted an All-Star.
Certainly, you know, had a breakout after, you know, being, you know, one of the Giants, you know, top prospects for quite some time.
and you know, just having him, you know, break out in a way that, you know, can, can help contribute to the team, certainly, you know, was a big factor.
Obviously, you know, for multiple seasons, you know, the Giants had a ton of top prospects.
and you know, some, some of them, you know, worked out in some cases, but, you know, a lot of them didn't really.
So Heliot Ramos, you know, having that breakout year in twenty twenty-four, was big.
But, you know, ultimately, you know, he talks about, you know, how, him coming into the twenty twenty-five season, you know, didn't have the same results.
Obviously, you know, looking at the counting stats, you know, there, there still was, you know, value there.
but you know, he wasn't that same high impact player.
Obviously, you know, one of the things that Ramos struggled with was, you know, his defense.
You know, he really isn't known to be, you know, a great defender.
So, you know, coming into spring training this year, you know, trying to improve on that mark, certainly, you know, is one of the fields of emphasis for this, you know, Giants squad going forward.
Obviously, they're going to need a lot more improvement from him.
but you know, also just taking a look at, you know, some of the bullpen arms.
you know, just having, you know, guys that can, you know, contribute to the roster.
San Martn, is definitely one of those guys.
and you know, really just, you know, having a lefty battle in spring training, seeing who's going to win out that battle in terms of who's going to make the opening day roster, is something that Vitello has talked about.
and you know, just talking about Luis Matos, you know, he's a very good, you know, player.
Obviously extremely athletic.
and you know, Vitello has noticed that You know, he, he notices that, you know, he's a very, you know, gre- gifted athlete.
but, you know, really just needs to, you know, work on the things that, you know, are going to help this squad.
and you know, this is a very, you know, different Giants team than last year.
Obviously, last year, you know, they probably finished around the middle of the pack.
you know, it wasn't a horrible season, but it certainly, you know, wasn't them making the playoffs.
And you know, that's going to be the main emphasis, is trying to change that culture, change that narrative, and, you know, try to get this team back into a winning, you know, mode.
Certainly, you know, the Giants haven't, you know, been the best team as of late, certainly, you know, in the past few seasons.
certainly, you know, it doesn't help when you're playing in a very, you know, tough division already.
but you know, they're trying to change that culture.
You know, they're trying to get backing-- back into the winning, you know, formula.
and you know, it's going to be very interesting, as you know, the, the spring training weeks come-- go by.
