Tony, you lose two walk-offs in one day.
I mean, what do you just say about the t- t- totality of the day?
obviously not a good day.
A lot of things you'd like to replay, redo, but you can't do that.
So it's a bitter pill, pill to swallow.
Get on a plane and see what you can make of the rest of the road trip.
I mean, I guess there's so much that you could unspool, but just to start from the end, you know, Bohm has struggled this year, but you could've put him on.
What was the thought of pitching to him?
Yeah, I mean, we're trying to get him to chase out of the zone, and then move on to the next guy.
did a good job of lifting the ball in the outfield.
There was an opportunity for maybe Gage to come in against the lefties in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Why'd you stick with Schwarber?
Yeah, it would've been for Schwarber, just how he was throwing the ball to the last hitter, and he's been in the fire out there, and it was a difficult decision.
And, you know, if it goes well, right answer.
If it doesn't, wrong answer.
Looked like Willy maybe had an opportunity to get Marsh going around second.
Was there just not communication to tell him what base to go to, or what would you Yeah, I mean, I would make, you know, a, a prediction of if I was out there, the crowd's, you know, going crazy with a possibility of a triple, at the very least excited about a double.
So I don't know that anyone could hear anything at that point.
What did you think of Borg's decision to hold up Gilbert?
did you think that Yeah, my, my best guess is I didn't ask him.
My best guess is, you know, line drive up the middle.
I assume Gilbert froze.
I, I was watching the baseball.
froze for a minute, maybe went off that read of not, you know, going right away.
So you got might have gotten asked about Keaton throwing all the consecutive splitters.
Was that by design, or?
No, not necessarily.
I mean, Mess is kinda calling from the dugout.
You know, trying to get Schwarber to chase up, but it's also been a pretty effective pitch for him, so not easy decisions when that guy's up to bat.
I think we didn't ask you about this in game one, but Walker threw nine straight two-seamers, uh- Yeah right about to start.
Was he just not feeling his slider at all, or what do you know about that?
Yeah, I mean, nothing but regret from him.
post-game, came in here and visited for a little bit just about things in general, and, obviously was, you know, I wouldn't even call it a pattern.
It was just a one-dimensional thing.
So, that wasn't any set pre-game plan or anything like that.
But that's a, you know, the pattern that, or, or just one consistent pitch that he went with.
Um- Okay opportunity to shake there.
Didn't wanna do it.
He's usually in a pretty good rhythm with the catcher, so.
Given how you mentioned that that first game, or just at some point in the Padres series, that it's gonna be affected by today, what, when is the decision to have Houser get the start as opposed to maybe McDonald?
just because we know he can give us a quality start, and we'll worry about that day when it comes.
and you know, that's what he did.
Tony, sorry if you've been asked already, but getting swept here, and, you know, kind of a brutal double header today too.
What sort How would you sum it up?
painful, and, certainly not mistake free, starting in here.
So, not much you can do about it at this point.
Not an easy flight, whether it be the time you get in or the, the mood of the travel.
and certainly no easy opponent we're about to go into.
So, you know, I don't know.
You gotta, gotta find a way to make the most of what we got left in this road trip.
I think you guys did come into the game with, like, the second-best bullpen ERA in the league.
Just do you feel, do you view today as more of a blip, or what gives you confidence that you guys will be able to close out these, these games, close games moving forward?
Yeah, no, I mean, those guys are prepared down there, and, and to this point they've done a good job.
When you're pitching with the game on the line, when it's one-run situation, if you're out there enough, there's gonna be occasions it doesn't go your way, and certainly there'll be occasions that it does.
But, you know, say from one instance, you know, the guys were attacking.
guys looked confident in themselves.
those guys did a good job.
In particular, you know, the main guy.
I know you're trying to digest these losses, but first full month of the season kind of is now done.
Just how, how would you kind of evaluate just this first full month as a whole for the team?
not good enough, on everybody's part.
You, you mentioned yourself in that group.
What, what was it today that you felt that you didn't do correctly, or that you point your Well, we lost two games, and I'm supposed to be in charge of this group, so there's a lot of things we could've done better.
And, like I said, you can't We, we visited, early in, in the, conversation.
Can't go back and undo anything.
you know, like I said, decisions go well, look smart, player looks good.
If not, you, you'd like to reverse it a- and undo it.
And like I said, there's, there's difficult decisions when Schwarber's up to bat, and we didn't make any of the, or I didn't make any of the right decisions.
You can call it that way.
