EARNS 2024 ENERGY STAR ® Partner of the Year:  Sustained Excellence Award

Energy Star Guidelines

Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to announce that it has earned the 2024 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  ENERGY STAR is the government-backed symbol for energy efficiency, providing simple, credible, and unbiased information that consumers and businesses rely on to make well-informed decisions. Since 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners helped American families and businesses avoid more than $500 billion in energy costs and achieve more than 4 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas reductions.

Being an EPA ENERGY STAR® partner means we have shared responsibility to help FCPS save money and protect the environment through the adoption of energy-efficient products and practices.  The partnership increases our knowledge, expertise, and resources available to improve our performance and reach a greater audience.  Perhaps the best part is that ENERGY STAR – through its guidelines, reminds us to recognize our accomplishments and helps us to do so by providing an outside view and evaluation to let us know that what we are doing matters and makes a difference.

ENERGY STAR®  Partner of the Year Winner for Sustained Excellence

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has received the 2023 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year-Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy.

About ENERGY STAR

ENERGY STAR  is a voluntary program offered by the  U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)  that helps businesses and individuals save money while protecting the climate through superior energy efficiency.

The ENERGY STAR program was established by the EPA in 1992, under the authority of the Clean Air Act. Under the EPA’s leadership, American consumers, businesses, and organizations have made investments in energy efficiency that are transforming the market for efficient products and practices, creating jobs, and stimulating the economy. Now in its 30th year, the ENERGY STAR program has boosted the adoption of energy-efficient products, practices, and services through valuable partnerships, objective measurement tools, and consumer education.

What Does it Mean to be ENERGY STAR Certified?

To earn the EPA’s ENERGY STAR  certification , a facility has to be certified by a third-party engineer and rank among the top 25 percent in building energy use in its peer group, nationwide.  In 2023, FCPS earned ENERGY STAR building certification for 72 schools.  187 FCPS buildings have been certified at least once.  A total of 831 building certifications have been earned.  The final results for FCPS ENERGY STAR Building Certification in 2024 along with their ENERGY STAR score and years certified are as follows:
