Specialist help and treatment to manage problems with alcohol

Alcohol Dependence is Completely  treatable

At the Life Change Wellbeing Clinic, Paul Allenby has worked effortlessly to create a therapeutic approach that works.

Our approach to alcohol therapy gives sufferers hope that they can develop the tools to manage their emotional attachment to alcohol in a way that is not only achievable but sustainable.

Nearly all people who have a problem with alcohol misuse, binge drinking, alcohol addiction and alcohol dependence live in denial that they have an emotional attachment to alcohol. If we use alcohol as a means to cope and deal with events, situations or feelings then we have an emotional attachment to alcohol.

The majority of people with alcohol dependence believe that they don't have a problem, that they have it all under control. If that was the case then the sufferer would be able to stop immediately without any side effects at all and there would be no thoughts about alcohol again.

Understanding an Emotional Attachment to Alcohol

Problem drinking can start for many different reasons. For some people it starts in teenage years and early adulthood when we go out drinking with our friends and over problems with binge drinking can become a habit.

For others it comes about because we witnessed one of our parents drinking heavily when we were young and it becomes something we just do because we copied our parents.

For these people where alcohol misuse is present all we are looking at is a habit that has got out of control.

For others however, their problems with alcohol are more deep rooted. Many people who suffer with alcohol addiction, alcohol dependence and binge drinking do so because they find things difficult to cope with and use alcohol as a coping mechanism to put things out of their mind..

For these people, managing their problems with alcohol becomes more than just dealing with a habit that has got out of control.

These people who suffer with alcohol related problems have a negative emotional attachment to alcohol and it is an emotional crutch that seems almost imposible to let go off.
Alcohol misuse is a learned response that can be successfully reversed.

The reason why it is so difficult to shake off the emotional attachment to alcohol is because the mind has been trained to believe that alcohol has a positive use, (although the outcome is very negative).

The mind believes that alcohol is the only way to cope with situations that are difficult and until your mind is taught otherwise then it will never give up it's role that it believes has positive benefits for you.

The list can be endless but there is one thing for sure. It generally isn't an activating event that makes you feel frustrated or angry but your minds negative interpretations about the event that's the problem. The problem is the buttons that are being pressed and this is what needs treating.

The effective treatments for problem drinking at the Life Change Wellbeing Clinic will help you to break the negative spiral and will help you to learn new and positive ways of response and behaviour.

Getting to the root of the
problem with alcohol misuse

Alcohol misuse is generally a symptom of an underlying problem. You may use alcohol to cope and manage a variety of difficulties including anxiety, depression, stress, fears, low confidence and low self esteem to name a few.

But does taking a drink to excess really help? Do the problems get sorted or are they still there but now with the effects of the alcohol to deal with too?

It's been said many times that alcohol never sorts problems out. The drinkers mind believes otherwise!

At the Life Change Wellbeing Clinic we provide cbt counselling for alcohol addiction, binge drinking and alcohol dependence in a way that we help the sufferer get to the root cause of their problems with alcohol.

The effective treatments for problem drinking

At the Life Change Wellbeing Clinic, Paul Allenby is a skilled and competent therapist and has been in private practice since 1998 helping people to find resolve to their emotional attachment to alcohol.

Our treatments are proactive in their nature and will help you to develop positive tools that work.

Our CBT counselling for alcohol misuse, binge drinking and alcohol addiction doesn't offer quick fixes that come undone.

Our 3 step approach to managing alcohol dependence will help you to understand the underlying causes of your alcohol misuse, to change negative belief systems and the negative response and to help you learn to cope and manage situations, (that cureently feel hard to deal with), in a more positive and rational way.

The 3 Step Approach For Alcohol Misuse That works

If you are serious about getting a grip of your anger problems do not be tempted by the quick fix methods offered by some practitioners.

Anger is a deep rooted problem and cannot be 'fixed' with a few techniques.

Paul Allenby is an established practitioner and specialises in the treatment of anger issues and gets great results with the 3 step approach he has devised.

Some therapists tell their perspective clients that they will sort the problem out in just a few sessions of this therapy or that therapy and all will be fine.

It really isn't that simple and if it was, we would all be using these quick fix methods and nobody would have problems with alcohol.

At the Life Change Wellbeing Clinic, Paul Allenbys approach to therapy gets results. We get results because we take a step by step approach to taking back control, not just helping to reduce or eliminate alcohol consumption but deal with the underlying causes.

Step 1: In the first step of alcohol cbt counselling we aim to get to the root cause of your emotional attachment to alcohol.

As mentioned above, your mind believes that using alcohol is the right way to manage and cope with events and situations that 'press the buttons'. Your mind believes that that there are benefits to being alcohol misuse.

We will uncover the false beliefs and interpretations so you understand what your emotional attachment to alcohol is all about.

This step is so important because it helps you to understand that there is nothing wrong with you...you have something called an emotional attachment to alcohol
.

Once you understand why your mind believes alcohol is the right course of action you will be able to successfully challenge the sabotaging thoughts and beliefs in the next step.

You will already be on the path to success. The path to managing without the need for alcohol.

Step 2: In this second step you will begin to challenge your negative thought processes which your mind sends in to try to make you drink. (Remember; up until now, your mind has truly believed that alcohol is the right thing to use to manage).

This step introduces the tools and techniques to start thinking more rationally.

Here you will learn to see events and situations for what they really are...not what your mind tells you they are.

This step will help you to create new rational ways of thinking rather than giving in and taking a drink.

This will prepare you well for the next step where you will successfully make the behavioural changes to manage situations without alcohol.

Step 3: With the first 2 steps under your belt, you will have become proficient in challenging your negative thoughts and beliefs. You will have stopped giving in to your minds historical beliefs that alcohol somehow helps.

In this stage you will put all your new learnings and understandings in to place and start the process of making the behavioural changes needed to put a stop to the hold alcohol has over you.

You will take back control from your emotional attachment to alcohol in graded achievable steps. You will develop the confidence step by step to effectively manage situations in a calmer, more rational way...without the need for alcohol.

The 3 Step Approach Creates Meaningful and Sustainable Change.
The only thing that is needed for you to release your emotional attachment to alcohol is your true desire to succeed.

This 3 step approach has been used in the clinic for many years and gets results.

The Therapies Used to Treat Alcohol Dependence

Alcohol attachment, binge drinking, alcohol addiction and alcohol misuse are complex in their nature and not one therapy alone works for everyone.

Paul Allenby is a skilled and competent therapist who uses different therapies to help treat problem drinking which include traditional counselling, hypnotherapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy.

Alcohol Counselling

Many people who experience problem drinking don't understand what is happening to them. All they know is that they drink alot.

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to admit there is a problem but with the effective use of counselling skills for alcohol you are given the opportunity to explore issues you believe are impacting on you in a negative, unhelpful way.

Alcohol counselling is aimed at helping you to reach your own decisions and to make your own choices.

You'll be helped to open up and talk about how alcohol affects you and the negative consequences of it. Counselling with step 1 of the 3 step approach in getting to the root cause of your problems with alcohol dependence.

Hypnotherapy

When we experience the feelings that encourage us to drink, we give in to them because our mind believes there is no where else to go.

Hypnotherapy for the treatment of alcohol misuse is a great therapeutic tool to help our clients learn how to naturally create a calmer mind. Hypnotherapy will teach you relaxation techniques so you can manage negative feelings.

Once you believe you can manage your current negative provoking situations in a calmer way, (with the effective relaxation techniques), then your mind will help you to achieve your desired outcome.

You can reduce your emotional attachment to alcohol...we just need to get your mind to believe it.

Cognitive behavioural  therapy.

One of the main ingredients needed to keep our emotional attachment to alcohol alive is the negative thoughts we attach to events and situations.

If we can develop the skills to talk back to our 'drinking mind' relief from the symptoms is almost inevitable. Once we stop giving in to what our mind tells us then we can make the behavioural changes to take back control.

Cognitive behavioural therapy is endorsed by N.I.C.E, (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence), and the NHS as an effective therapy to create sustainable behavioural change.

CBT helps to systematically break down our negative thoughts and beliefs that create negative feelings and behaviour.

The huge benefit of the CBT treatment for alcohol misuse, binge drinking and alcohol addiction is that it goes beyond just talking about how alcohol affects you.

Alcohol CBT helps you to develop the tools to make sustainable behavioural change.

You don't have to put up with alcohol dependence any longer

With the effective therapies of counselling, (to get to the root of your problem with alcohol), hypnotherapy, (for relaxation techniques), and cognitive behavioural therapy, (to make behavioural changes you can be helped to create effective resolve and manage your alcohol dependence with achievable and sustainable results.
