Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis

Hypnotherapy helps to break negative habits of behaviour

There is no end to where hypnotherapy and hypnosis can help.

The majority of our problems and difficulties are created by habit. You can be helped to unlearn your negative habits of behaviour to create a more positive future for yourself.

Hypnosis works by creating a relaxed state of mind where your subconscious mind can learn new positive habits of behaviour to bring about relief from negative troublesome behaviours.

New Title

Many people have misconceptions as to what hypnotherapy is. Some people believe that you are asleep. Others believe that they will lose control of their faculties and others worry that they will get stuck in hypnosis.

Some people have seen stage shows and believe the hypnotherapist may get them to say or do things they don't wish to.

These are all of course myths. Clinical hypnosis is brought on using natural relaxation techniques and is a very pleasurable and relaxing experience. In hypnosis, you are not 'under'. You can open your eyes whenever you wish.

Everything we do, we do by habit and sometimes we cannot get change until the part of your mind that's causing the difficulties for you starts to work with you.

This is where hypnotherapy comes in. During hypnotherapy sessions, suggestions for change are delivered to your subconscious mind.

Along with suggestions for change, (which you desire at a conscious level), you will be helped to visualise these changes and what the mind sees, the mind can achieve.

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy also helps you to learn how to create a calmer state of mind when it's required.

So for example; you worry about going out in public. You are worried about how you might get anxious, fearful or panicky. Because you focus on this so much even the mention of doing these things can bring on the anxious feelings.

The hypnotherapy sessions would initially help you to manage the anxious feelings with the relaxation and calming techniques.

Once this is achieved you will then be helped to visualise yourself in the situations where you believe you will feel anxious, fearful or panicky but here you will visualise yourself feeling calm and relaxed.

With the constant repetition of the suggestions and visualisations your mind begins to take on a new belief, a belief that you can be calm and relaxed in these situations and once your mind takes on this new belief it will stop making you feel anxious, fearful or panicky.

Hypnotherapy and Dissociation

The negative feelings you experience are very real for you and can be quite debilitating. A technique we can use with hypnosis and hypnotherapy is called dissociation. What this means is that we want to help you dissociate your emotions from actual events.

Sometimes, some events and situations you find yourself in can be quite traumatic emotionally. To get you to visualise yourself in these situations during hypnosis can be equally traumatic and have a negative impact. What we help you to do is to use the visualisation techniques whilst you are dissociated from the images.

This works by getting you to visualise that you are watching the situations on a screen or tv. The important thing here is that you are watching yourself and not part of the images.

You play through the feared or anxious situation from this dissociated viewpoint and whilst you do this you start to watch yourself acting in a way that you wish to.

This process works by repetition and gets great results. What the mind sees, the mind can achieve.

We have been using dissociation for many years in the clinic with clients who experience traumatic emotions and when used with cognitive behavioural therapy has helped many scores of people overcome anxiety, fears, phobias and panic attacks.
