There are many conditions associated with anxiety including:
Understanding Depression
Depression is a very real
feeling and the feelings associated with depression can be very
debilitating to the point that the sufferer finds it difficult to even
carry out the simplist of tasks without become anxious.
There are many medications doctors prescribe to help with the
symptoms of depression and they certainly have a role to play for some
people when they are dealing with depression.
Unfortunately though, medication doesn't help the sufferer make changes to how they think, feel and behave.
Depression is a symptom of the negative interpretations your
mind makes to events and situations. These interpretations can give us
feelings of helplessness and hopelessness and can feel never ending from
one day to the next.
For most clients who experience low mood and low feelings of
depression it's not events and situations that make you feel the way you
do...it's the negative beliefs your mind holds.
So for example;
if you someone passed you in the street without acknowledging you, you might begin to feel down thinking that this person doesn't like you, that you must have done something to upset them.
Now this person might have been in their own little world and didn't even see you but your mind has interpreted it differently.
We can see by this example that it is not the event itself that causes the low and negative feelings but the minds interpretation to the event, fuelled by it historic negative beliefs.
If we constantly have thoughts like this, this can lead to the exasperation of the symptoms as we create a negative belief system.
Over time we train our minds to think negatively, to see things as pointless and hopeless and with repetition we believe these negativities and because we believe them we act upon them.
Depression, (for most people), is a learned response that can be successfully reversed
For most people who experience depression and the negative symptoms of depression, they do so because they have learned to feel this way.
Believe it or not, your mind believes that this default feeling is something that is positive for you, that it's the right way to be and until it learns otherwise, will continue to behave in this way.
At the Life Change Wellbeing Clinic, our effective therapies for change can help to challenge our negative beliefs and make positive changes to our default way of thinking and feeling.
Getting to the root of the
problem with depression
Depression is a symptom
and everyone who experiences the feelings of depression do so in their own unique way. Depression is what you experience but isn't necessarily the problem that needs treating.
If we just develop a treatment plan to 'fix' the depression we will still be left with the underlying causes as to why situations make you feel low and depressed.
There are many causes as to why you have developed these feelings. They may be a direct result of negative childhood experiences, problems in your teenage/adolescent years or events in your adulthood.
Your mind will have developed these negative feelings to help manage with negative events then and have no place or purpose in the present.
Depression may be a result of other emotional distresses such as stress, work worries, relationship difficulties, low confidence, low self esteem, excessive worrying, anxiety related issues and alcohol misuse to name a few.
Paul Allenby is skilled to work with these areas to make meaningful change.
Our effective depression therapy
does not involve just removing the symptom because that's just like putting a plaster over the problem hoping it will go away.
We work on establishing the cause that creates the effect. This is called 'cause and effect' depression treatment.
Paul Allenby has created his unique method of therapy and aims to help his clients who suffer with depression and the symptoms of depression in 3 very clear steps and aim to help the sufferer:
Understand
the root cause of a problem.
Change
negative beliefs and negative thought processes.
Make
effective and sustainable behavioural change.
Whatever the underlying cause of your depression is, there is one thing for sure...you were not born feeling depressed.
The specialist treatments at the Life Change Wellbeing Clinic will help you develop the skills to take back control, to stop giving in to the negative thoughts and to change the default depressed behaviour.
The treatments for depression
and how they work
At the Life Change Wellbeing Clinic, Paul Allenby is a skilled and competent therapist and has been in private practice since 1998 helping people to find resolve to problems and difficulties which impact on their lives.
Our treatments are proactive in their nature and will help you to develop positive tools that work.
The 3 step approach gets sustainable results.
The following techniques and therapies provide excellent and sustainable results in helping to manage the symptoms of depression and its associated symptoms.
All therapies for depression are individual to your specific needs and requirements. Our programmes for change are fully adaptable to help you turn around the debilitating feelins you may experience in to positive ones.
Step 1:
In this first step we aim to get to the root cause of your feelings of depression.
As mentioned above, your mind believes that depression is somehow the right response to cope with events and situations that feel emotionally threatening.
Your mind believes that that there are benefits to being depressed although the outcome is far from beneficial.
We will uncover the false beliefs and interpretations so you understand what your depression and the negative feelings are all about.
This step is so important because it helps you to understand that there is nothing wrong with you...you have something called depression.
Once you understand why your mind believes a negative way of thinking and feeling is the right course of action you will be able to successfully challenge the sabotaging thoughts and beliefs in the next step.
Step 2:
In this second step you will begin to challenge your negative thought processes which your mind sends in to try and create the negative feelings and behaviour.
This step introduces the tools and techniques for you to finally stop listening to the false brain messages.
Here you will learn to see events and situations for what they really are...not what your mind tells you they are.
This step will help you to create new rational ways of thinking rather than giving in to the default depressive state.
This will prepare you well for the next step where you will successfully make the behavioural changes to manage situations in a more positive, rational and fulfiling way.
Step 3:
With the first 2 steps under your belt, you will have become proficient in challenging your negative thoughts and beliefs.
You will now be in no doubt as to your minds intentions and you will be ready to let go of the default depressive state.
You will be well prepared to stop giving in to the negative interpretations your mind makes as you create new habits of behaviour that will benefit you immensly.
In this stage you will put all your new learnings and understandings in to place and start the process of making the behavioural changes needed to put a stop to the hold depression has over you.
You will make these changes in graded achievable steps. You will develop the confidence step by step to effectively manage situations in a calmer, more rational way...without automatically reverting to the default depressed state.
The 3 Step Approach Creates Meaningful and
Sustainable Change.
Although medication can be beneficial in helping with the symptoms of depression when it becomes intense, many people can be helped to manage the negative feelings they experience, without the need to go on the path of relying on medication to make them feel better.
Therapy is a great way of dealing with feelings of depression as well as the associated anxiety.
If your feelings of depression are due to lifes events,. (past or current), impacting on you then the therapies at the Life Change Wellbeing Clinic can help you make change that is sustainable.
The therapies used to treat depression
and the
symptoms of depression
Depression and the symptoms of depression are complex in their nature and not one therapy alone works for everyone.
Paul Allenby is a skilled and competent therapist who uses different therapies to help treat depression which include traditional counselling, hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and exposure and response therapy.
Depression Counselling.
Many people who experience depression don't understand what is happening to them. All they know is that they don't feel great.
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to admit there is a problem but with the effective use of counselling skills you are given the opportunity to explore issues you believe are impacting on you in a negative, unhelpful way.
Depression counselling is aimed at helping you to reach your own decisions and to make your own choices.
You'll be helped to open up and talk about how events and situations impact on you. The counselling will help with step 1 of the 3 step approach in getting to the root cause of your problems with depression.
Hypnotherapy. The feelings of depression can be very debilitating. When we feel low, we can lose our ability to see things rationally because our mind is not calm enough to do so..
Hypnotherapy for depression is a great therapeutic tool to help our clients learn how to naturally create a calmer mind. Hypnotherapy will teach you relaxation techniques so you can manage the low and anxious feelings you experience.
Feeling the negative feelings of depression can become a default feeling, that the feeling just comes on whenever you are faced with negative provoking situations.
Hypnotherapy helps to create a more positive state of mind. You will be helped to create the mindset of focusing how you want things to be.
With this repetition your mind can help you to create the very things you desire with the guided visualisation techniques. What the mind sees...the mind can achieve.
Hypnotherapy, when used with
cognitive behavioural therapy
to treat depression and the symptoms of depression can help you break free from the negative thoughts and feelings you may experience.
Cognitive behavioural therapy.
One of the main ingredients needed to keep depression and the depressive feelings alive is the negative thoughts we attach to events and situations.
If we can develop the skills to talk back to our 'depressive mind', relief from the symptoms is almost inevitable. Once we stop giving in to what our mind tells us then we can make the behavioural changes to take back control.
Cognitive behavioural therapy is endorsed by N.I.C.E, (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence), and the NHS as an effective therapy to create sustainable behavioural change.
CBT helps to systematically break down our negative thoughts and beliefs that create negative feelings and behaviour.
The huge benefit of the CBT treatment for depression is that it goes far beyond just talking about how depression affects you. It helps you to develop the tools to make sustainable behavioural change.
You don't have to put up with depression any longer
