　私は、「知らない英単語はない！」と豪語しています。
　豪語していると、不思議なことに、どんな英単語も簡単に覚えてしまうのです。

　今日は、私が出会った単語の中から、英米の知識人に一目置かれるような「知的な英単語」を選んで紹介します。

　【今日の単語】
　８月１２日の英単語は、「deprecate」。

　（例）We deprecate this use of company funds for political purposes.

　【前回の単語】
ostracized him after he criticized the company in public. AIDS victims often experience social ostracism and discrimination.）

　いかがでしたか？

　ostracizeの意味は、追放する、葬る、
　to avoid someone intentionally or to prevent them from taking part in the activities of a group、
という意味です。

　カレーとタマネギで直腸がんの予防？

　In a new study, patients with pre-cancerous polyps（ポリープ）in the colon（結腸）who were given a pill containing a combination of curcumin and quercetin, found in curry and onions, experienced a marked reduction in both the size and number of polyps.
　Previous lab research on rodents（ねずみ等の齧歯(げつし)動物）and observational studies on populations that consume large amounts of curry have strongly suggested that curcumin might be effective against colorectal（結腸直腸の）cancer.
