Tales of unicorns, mythical horse-like creatures endowed with magical healing powers and bearing a characteristic single horn on the center of their foreheads, have enchanted children for centuries. While sighting such a fantastical creature seems an impossibility, a 1-year-old roe deer(ノロジカ)born on an Italian nature reserve has given kids a glimmer of hope(かすかな望み). Nicknamed "unicorn," the young deer was born with an apparent genetic anomaly that caused it to develop only 1 horn instead of 2. Even more unusual, the deer's horn stands directly in the center of his head rather than off to one side. Some now wonder if the original unicorn myths were inspired by other cases like this one.
