　彼岸花が真っ盛りです。
何もない地上から、突然に花茎が伸びてきたと思ったら、 1 週間も経たないうちに鮮やかな紅色の花が開花します。
開花する日は、律儀にも毎年 9 月 23 日頃というのも不思議です。

　Lycoris, or higanbana, bloom constantly around 23 ^rd of September, the Autumnal Equinox Day or ohigan, every year.

Lycoris are native to eastern and southern Asia in China, Japan, southern Korea, northern Vietnam, northern Laos, northern Thailand, northern Burma, Nepal, northern Pakistan, Afghanistan, and eastern Iran.
Since these scarlet flowers usually bloom near cemeteries around the autumnal equinox, they are described in Chinese and Japanese translations of the Lotus Sutra as ominous flowers that grow in Diyu (also known as Hell) and guide the dead into the next reincarnation.
