　また、次のような意見も耳にした。
　「ビエンチャン郊外の湿地帯の開発が予定されているが、ここは、村人に食料となる魚を供給している場所だ。湿地帯は、水の浄化作用を担っていいて、天然の汚水処理場だ。実際、かなりの汚水をこの湿地帯が処理している。」
　湿地帯を失ったら、ビエンチャンの汚水を処理する施設を新たに作る必要となり、ますます、大きな投資が必要となる。また、魚が取れなくなれば、魚に代わる食料を購入するための現金が必要となり、現金を持っていない人は、貧困になります。 （続く）

It also functions in flood protection and water treatment for the urban center.
