BOSE363からDALI MENUETに買い替えようかと思案中‥　Considering a Switch: BOSE 343 vs. DALI MENUET

先日娘の買い物につきあって、秋葉原のヨドバシに立ち寄ったところ、「Dali Menuet」の展示処分品が10万そこそこで売られているのを発見。最近終売になったとはいえ、長らく私の憧れだった小型スピーカーだ。熱い思いを抱きながら自宅に帰って楽天で検索してみると、今なら新品でも12万弱、ポイントを加味すれば11万そこそこで購入できるではないか（一時は15万ぐらいの値だついていた）。だったら多少高くても（展示品でなく）新品を購入するのも悪くないなぁと思い、私の心は一気に昂った。

問題は現在のスピーカーの処遇だ。私が自室で使っているスピーカーは30年前のBOSE（121＋242＝363相当）という骨董品だが、現在もバリバリ現役である。ヤフオクに出せば今でも４～5万前後の値はつきそうだが、いかんせん重くてかさばるので、これを梱包して発送しようという気力がなかなか湧かない。といって、粗大ごみとして出してしまうのは、あまりにもったいない。（なにぶん今の時点で普通に使えているので。）
一方で、このかさばるBOSEをMenuetに代えれば、空いたスペースにカラーボックスを置くことができ、部屋内にあふれている書籍やCDをすっきり収納することができる。これはかなり大きな誘惑だ。私がこの話を持ち出したとき、カミサンが反対しなかったのも、やはり今のスピーカーが嵩張って邪魔だと感じているからだと推察している。

このタイミングでDALIを購入して、一気呵成にBOSEを処分してしまうか、それともMenuetの購入をもう少し我慢して、仕事やプライベートがもう少し暇になったタイミングでBOSEをオークションにかけるか、思案のしどころである。

The other day, I was accompanying my daughter on a shopping trip and happened to stop by Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara. That’s when I spotted a display model of the DALI MENUET on clearance for just over ¥100,000. Although it has recently been discontinued, it’s a compact speaker I’ve admired for many years.
When I got home, I checked Rakuten and was surprised to find that brand-new units are currently selling for just under ¥120,000. With reward points factored in, the effective price comes to a little over ¥110,000.
That got me thinking—maybe this is not a bad time to upgrade to a brand-new pair after all.

The real issue, however, is what to do with my current speakers. I’ve been using a pair of BOSE speakers (roughly equivalent to the Model 363) for the past 39 years, and they’re still going strong. If I were to list them on Yahoo! Auctions, I could probably get ¥30,000 to ¥40,000 for the pair. The problem is that they’re heavy and bulky, and I simply don’t have the energy to pack and ship them.

On the other hand, replacing these space-hogging BOSE speakers with the compact Menuets would free up a significant amount of room. I could even fit a set of storage shelves in the newly available space and finally organize the piles of books and CDs that have taken over the room. That’s a very appealing prospect.
When I brought up the idea, my wife didn’t object—which probably means she, too, feels that the current speakers are taking up too much space.
So now I’m at a crossroads.
Should I go ahead and buy the DALI speakers now and get rid of the BOSE in one decisive move? Or should I hold off on the Menuets for a while, wait until work and life calm down a bit, and then put the BOSE up for auction properly?
It’s a tough call—and one that requires some serious deliberation.
