終末時計 Doomsday clock

この世が消滅するまでの時間を知らせる終末時計というのがあるそうで、今年は深夜まであと100秒と設定されたという。この時間が短いと終末がより迫っていることを示している。もちろん警告のためのもので、最初は1947年に核兵器防止を喚起するためのものだったという。その後2007年に地球温暖化防止が加えられたそうだ。英国の首相が昨年のグラスゴーでの世界環境会議でこれについて言及したという。核兵器禁止や温暖化防止に進展があるとこの時間を長くするようで、以前は分の単位だったというから昨年と今年の100秒は危機感の表れである。時計の針が深夜になると核兵器戦争か破壊的な気候変動によって人類が消滅することを意味している。世界の終末はいろんな宗教で予言されている。キリスト教ではイエスキリストの再来の日が地球の終わりで、神様が汚れた地球を破壊して、新しい世界を作ると予言している。終末時計はこうした宗教の予言と一致している。人間は本能的に自らが地球を滅ぼす日が来るのだと考えているのではないだろうか。I heard about the Doomsday Clock that shows how close we are to the end of the earth. This clock was designed to give a warning to the world. It was created in 1947 to alert people to nuclear threat. Climate change was added in 20007. It was set at 100 seconds until midnight in 2021.The time is decided by scientists every year. It is seconds this year and last year. But it used to be minutes. When the clock ticks at midnight, it means that the world is destroyed by nuclear war or climate change. British prime minister Boris Johnson cited this clock in his speech at UN climate change conference in Glasgow.The doomsday of the earth is predicted in several religions. Christian bible predicts that the earth will be destroyed at the time of Jesus Christ's second coming and rebuilt as a heaven after 1000 years since then.It is likely that human beings are instinctively in fear of the world being destroyed.

地球温暖化への疑問 Is global warming serious ?

地球温暖化が言われるようになった頃は、その原因は人間の活動により生ずる二酸化炭素などのグリーンハウスガスによるものか太陽活動の変化によるものかで議論があった。ノーベル賞の真鍋博士が温暖化のモデルを提唱した時も十分に実証されていない理論的な考察だという受け止め方があったと思う。しかし今ではだれもが経済活動等により生ずる地球温暖化の害を認めて、その防止の必要性を確信していると思っていたが、防止の必要はないという意見があるようだ。ある外国記事による温暖化容認の4つの根拠とそれに対する反論は次のようである。太陽活動により地球温暖化と寒冷化が起こり、現在の温暖化はこのような太陽の活動によるものである。またこれとは反対に現在は太陽の活動が弱くなって寒冷になりつつあるので、温暖化ガスの影響は相殺されている。前者の意見に対する反論は現在の温暖化は地球に近い対流圏だけで起こっており、太陽に近い成層圏では温暖化は起こっていないので、太陽活動によるものではない。また後者については、太陽活動による温度の低下は小さく、温暖化ガスの影響を相殺するほどではない。 2点目は、温暖化はメリットをもたらし現在人の住んでいない寒冷地でも人が住めるようになるという。しかし事実はデメリットの方が多く、温暖化により雨がひどくなる、海の水位が上がる、作物の収穫が減る等があるという。つまり、温暖化は極端な気候をもたらし死者が増え、寒冷地の温暖化よりデメリットが大きいという。3点目は化石燃料を制限することの影響は後進国で大きく、貧しい人をさらに貧しくする。これに対しては、現在開発が進んでいる自然エネルギーはすでに化石燃料より安くなっているところもある。また、化石燃料を続けるとやがて自然災害で生活や経済により経費がかかるようになり、貧しい国ほど負担が大きい。4点目は、再生エネルギーには供給の安定性に問題があり、最近起こっている停電はこのためである。しかしこうした事故は発電や送電システムの問題でありエネルギー源の問題ではないという。People had been wondering for long time whether global warming was due to greenhouse gas or the change in the solar activity. When Dr. Manabe, 2021 Nobel prize winner, published his work on the theological model of global warming, many people did not consider it seriously. But now it is obvious that the climate change is due to the greenhouse gas. Surprisingly there are still some people who do not take it seriously. The claims by those people and the responses to them are summarized into the following four points. The first claim is that the global warming can be attributed to the change in the solar activity rather than greenhouse gas. But the current warming is observed to occur only in the atmosphere close to the earth (troposphere) and not in the outer layer (stratosphere). There is another claim that the solar system is now cooling which offsets the global warming. But acctually the global warming surpasses the cooling effect.Secondly global warming will make cold areas more habitable. But the climate change will cause more damage by bringing extreme climate such as flooding, landslide, elevation of sea level etc. Thirdly restricting the use of fossil fuel makes poor countries poorer. But renewable energy is already cheaper in some places. Extreme climate caused by the use of fossil fuel will hurt our life and economy and eventually cost more.The fourth claim is that renewable energy is unstable. Recent blackouts can be attributed to the dependency on the unreliable renewable source. But those incidents are more likely to be due to the poor management of electric generation and distribution.
