The Met's new production of Rigoletto set in Las Vegas in 1960 opened earlier this week—and the reviews are in.
"It's impossible not to like the new production. It's wildly entertaining, inventive, strangely funny and yet also deeply sad… Michael Mayer captures both the emotional depth and surface glitter in an audacious staging…. The audience whooped approval at the end" (Bloomberg).
As Rigoletto, Željko Lučić's "voice is big and penetrating, focused and true… His phrasing is supple and elegant" (New York Times).
"An entertaining, bold rendition" (Associated Press).
