Webster moves on to the playoffs

HORNELL, N.Y. -By the time Dave Brust’s Webster Yankees took the field Thursday night their playoff schedule was already written. With nothing to gain and nothing to lose, the Yankees could have fallen prey to complacency. Complacency would have to find another nest to roost in.

GENEVA, N.Y. – No one can doubt the perseverance of Dave Brust’s Webster Yankees. Just one week ago, the 2010 version of the Yankees looked lifeless.  They were in the middle of a rough ten-game stretch where they lost seven. Maybe, the experience made the home nine stronger.

Gardner and Webster turn back the Thunder

WEBSTER, N.Y. – In just 24 hours, Dave Brust’s Webster Yankees have gone from hunter to the hunted. After losing seven of ten games, the Yankees found themselves on the outside of the NYCBL playoff picture.In the last two nights, the pinstripes have climbed the ladder to a potential post-season spot.

Webster sweeps Elmira

WEBSTER, N.Y. – Superman had kryptonite. Sampson had his hair. Apparently, the Elmira Pioneers have “The Basket.” The NYCBL West division leading Pioneers came to Webster riding a seven-game winning streak. The Pios left with a pair of losses.

If nothing else, Dave Brust’s Webster Yankees proved they learned their lesson. After a nine-game losing streak where they left the tying run stranded 90 feet away on three different occasions, the pinstripes struck twice in the late innings Monday night.

Webster Wears Out Niagara

Dave Brust’s Webster Yankees wore out their welcome Friday night. Or, maybe they just wore out the Niagara Power pitching staff. Nate Koontz (Ball State) and Shawn Bailey (SUNY Cortland) led a 22-hit barrage as the Webster Yankees buried the Niagara Power 13-4 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Sal Maglie Field.

Casey Rana (U Texas – Permian Basin) tossed a complete game one-hitter, and Geneva executed a suicide squeeze in the top of the ninth to defeat Webster 4-2, in New York Collegiate Baseball League action, Thursday night.

For now, there appears to be no slowing the Webster Yankee bus. Three pitchers combined to hold Niagara to six hits and one run while Steve Muoio (Georgia C&S) led a 13-hit attack as the pinstripes pounded the Power 8-1 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action, Wednesday night.

A non-weather-related delay and showers could not stop the Webster Yankees Sunday afternoon at Basket Road Field.Michael Craig (St. John Fisher) went the distance while Steve Muoio (Georgia C & S) collected two hits and the game-winning RBI as the pinstripes triumphed over the Alfred Oilers, 2-0 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action.

Webster Tops Allegany County

Saturday night’s New York Collegiate Baseball League match up at Basket Road Field pitted the West Division’s second-place Allegany County Nitros and the first-place Webster Yankees. Coming off a pair of rainouts, Webster skipper, Dave Brust, had concern for his team’s performance in this pivotal game.
