D3 Energy Ltd (ASX:D3E, OTCQX:DNRGF) has gained formal recognition of the strategic importance of its South African gas project, with the asset awarded Strategic Integrated Project status under the country's Infrastructure Development Act.

The designation places the project within South Africa's national infrastructure program and recognises its potential contribution to the country's energy security, economic development and future gas supply as D3 Energy works toward commercial development.

Strategic recognition strengthens project position

The Strategic Integrated Project, or SIP 20f, status covers exploration right ER315 and production right PR016 and is designed to support projects considered important to South Africa's national infrastructure priorities.

For D3 Energy, the designation could improve coordination with government departments, regulators and other stakeholders while increasing the project's visibility among investors, lenders and strategic partners.

It also strengthens alignment with South Africa's energy and infrastructure objectives and could support planning around the infrastructure required for future development.

The company sees the recognition as particularly significant given South Africa's growing natural gas supply deficit and the potential for the project to contribute to domestic energy generation and security.

Managing director and CEO David Casey said the designation was formal recognition of the strategic role the project could play in South Africa's energy future.

"The granting of SIP status is a significant milestone for D3 and a formal recognition of the strategic role our project can play in securing South Africa's energy future and in positioning the country as a key supplier of helium into the global market at a time when supply is under significant structural pressure and sources outside the Middle East are becoming more and more important.

"We look forward to continuing engagement with Government and stakeholders as we progress the project toward commercial development."

ER315 remains flagship asset

D3 Energy's flagship ER315 project is in South Africa's Free State Province and contains certified reserves alongside contingent and prospective helium and natural gas resources.

The company is continuing technical and development work across the project as it assesses a pathway toward commercialisation.

Today's recognition comes on the back of a confirmed helium concentration of 5.2% from the NGT245 E well at D3E's Nooitgedacht prospect, following remedial work that successfully restored gas flow.

The result reinforces the scale and continuity of the helium system across D3 Energy's Free State acreage and was recorded during the company's first drilling campaign at Nooitgedacht, around 40 kilometres from its Production Right application area.
