Investing.com -- Bernstein has identified several China-based biopharmaceutical companies positioned to benefit from evolving drug development capabilities, with a focus on integrated platforms and service providers that support AI-enabled research and development workflows.
The broker's analysis emphasizes measurable research and development productivity, active pipeline programs, and the ability to combine computational tools with experimental validation and manufacturing scale.
1. WuXi AppTec (603259.SS/2359.HK)— WuXi AppTec is rated Outperform and fits Bernstein's scaled service-provider thesis.
Bernstein cites WuXi's role in supporting AI drug discovery through experimental capabilities, including its OTS compound library, while broader CRO/CDMO partnerships are becoming increasingly important for wet-lab validation, development and manufacturing.
2. Innovent Biologics (1801.HK)— Innovent had 13 active programs in Bernstein's pipeline analysis.
The broker highlights integrated biopharma companies that can combine AI with preclinical, clinical and commercial datasets, rather than relying solely on AI model development.
3. Hengrui Medicine (600276.SS)— Bernstein's preferred integrated biopharma names include Hengrui, which has the largest active pipeline among the companies covered, with 74 active programs as of Sept. 28.
Bernstein said integrated drugmakers should be assessed on measurable R&D productivity, pipeline refresh and clinical execution rather than AI announcements alone.
4. Hansoh Pharma (3692.HK)— Hansoh is among the established Chinese biopharma companies generating a substantial number of active programs, with 25 active pipeline programs in Bernstein's latest analysis.
The bank sees integrated companies with proprietary data and end-to-end drug-development capabilities as potential beneficiaries of AI adoption.
