Portnoy reacts to Bitcoin crashing below $60K
Bitcoin (BTC) crashed below $60,000 on June 24 as a broader risk-off mood swept across financial markets.
The sentiment is extremely bearish right now as CoinGlass's Crypto Fear & Greed Index fell firmly into the "extreme fear" territory.
Reacting to the Bitcoin crash, Portnoy challenged the maximalists who have been predicting that the cryptocurrency will surge to $1 million to tell him why those calling it a "scam" are wrong.
"Cause it seems like it's going to zero,"he remarked.
Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey and ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood are among the public figures who have predicted $1 million target. Strategy (Nasdaq: MSTR) co-founder Michael Saylor has even predicted that the cryptocurrency will surge to $10 million, thanks to his company's aggressive accumulation.
Billionaire Mark Cuban , who remained a believer for years, last month claimed that Bitcoin "has lost the plot" and admitted to selling most of his holdings in the asset.
Elon Musk reportedly said during a court hearing in April that though some cryptocurrencies have merit, most are "scam." His companies, Tesla and SpaceX (Nasdaq: SPCX), hold Bitcoin on their balance sheets though.
Even if Bitcoin crashes to zero, Portnoy doubled down on his earlier stance of holding it.
"I was born with diamond hands. I'll die with diamond hands,"he said.
Bitcoin was exchanging hands at $61,035 at press time, as per Decibel .
