Acuity (AYI) Q4 Earnings Put AIS Margin Strength In Focus

Trade Acuity on Coinbase

The market barely flinched at Acuity's Q4 2026 release. The stock inched up about 0.5% to US$318.72, even as earnings per share landed at US$5.77 and quarterly revenue reached US$1.24b.

What really moved beneath the surface was profit quality. Net income of US$173m and a fatter trailing net margin have been quietly grinding higher while traders treated the print as business as usual. This muted reaction sets up a clear sentiment test for you: price is calm, but the income statement is anything but sleepy.

Acuity Bull Case: AIS Execution Clears Key Hurdle

The optimistic view on Acuity hinges on Intelligent Spaces carrying more of the load while legacy lighting stays muted.

"Acuity Intelligent Spaces is seeing strong sales and margin performance, with Distech and QSC contributing to revenue growth and an adjusted operating profit margin of 19.3%."

Q4 results offer concrete evidence for that claim. AIS reached roughly a quarter of Acuity's sales with 17% net sales growth and a 61.2% adjusted gross margin, while ABL revenue was essentially flat. Adjusted operating profit of US$74m for AIS, up 36%, shows the higher value controls and AV mix is scaling. This supports the margin focused bullish narrative even as overall net sales grew only 3%.

Acuity Bear Case: Supply Pain but No Demand Crack Yet

Bears worry that Acuity will struggle to turn AIS demand into profitable volume as supply tightens and project work stalls.

"Although Acuity Intelligent Spaces is seeing strong sales from Distech and QSC, the business still depends on data center related demand for key components like memory. This could tighten supply and limit future revenue conversion if availability worsens and cannot be fully offset through pricing or productivity, putting pressure on gross margins."

The strain is now visible. Management flagged memory inflation as roughly a couple hundred basis points AIS gross margin headwind starting early FY27. Yet AIS just posted 61.2% adjusted gross margin, 36% adjusted operating profit growth and mid teens growth is included in guidance while ABL remains flat, so demand softness, not just cost risk, is the missing bear milestone this quarter.

Hunt Quiet Fundamental Disconnects

Acuity just showed how a busy income statement can sit behind a fairly quiet share price. The real opportunity is hunting for stocks that could be undervalued before the crowd catches up.

  • Company 1 - 42% below our estimate - expand a new manufacturing and supply chain buildout that feeds higher margin film and service channels across multiple installer types.

  • Company 2 - 43% below our estimate - turn a growing tracker backlog into a broader platform as storage, inverter and non tracker offerings scale into delayed utility projects.

  • Company 3 - 25% below our estimate - fill expanded manufacturing capacity with higher value photonics and data center optics programs as AI driven data traffic reshapes customer orders.

Those are three of them. See the full list of 29 companies trading below our fair value estimates →
