Electrical Americas Margins Will Decide the Reaction
Electrical Americas margins are the first thing to watch. Management guided for about 250 basis points of improvement from Q2 to Q3, with 150 basis points coming from price/cost. Margins reached 27.5% last quarter, and pricing actions took effect in Q2 or early August.
Capacity comes next. Eaton is investing more than $1 billion across two dozen projects, and book-to-bill rose to 1.3. Faster output should turn the record backlog into revenue. Management sized the U.S. data center backlog at 307 gigawatts, with about 20% coming online near term. All of that expansion still has to be powered, cooled, and wired by someone, which is the whole case for the seven suppliers we profiled in a free AI infrastructure report.
You should also keep an eye on Boyd. It delivered $432 million in Q2 revenue, and full-year guidance now stands at $1.8 billion. Meanwhile, interest expense nearly tripled to $201 million as long-term debt rose to $18.5 billion.
Revenue deserves attention too. Eaton beat EPS estimates in Q3 2025 and Q4 2025 but missed on revenue both times. External grid connection delays could also slow hyperscale deployment schedules.
Execution Has to Match the Demand Story
Management said "2026 is Eaton's year of execution" on the last call. Demand looks secure, and Eaton has beaten EPS estimates six straight quarters. What matters now is whether new plants and pricing lift margins on schedule. With the Mobility spin-off via Dana( NYSE:DAN ) expected in Q1 2027, a clean Q3 would focus Eaton's identity as a pure grid-to-chip power play.
