Autoliv (ALV) Stock Price Drops After Q3 Earnings Margin Squeeze

Trade Autoliv on Coinbase

Autoliv has just put Q3 2026 on the table and the stock flinched first. After the release the share price slipped about 3.5% from the prior close, even though adjusted operating margin came in at 9.7% and management held the full year margin outlook at around 10.5%.

The market is trading the short term squeeze in profitability, while the business points to cost pressure that looks contained and a balance sheet that supports ongoing buybacks and dividends. This is a sentiment clash between a softer quarter and a still intact margin story.

Autoliv margin story vs cost headwinds

Optimists argue Autoliv can structurally lift profitability through its cost program, even with raw material pressure biting into Q3.

"The main factor that has to go right is that Autoliv sustains margin gains from structural cost reductions, automation, and footprint optimization, while managing tariff recovery and raw material headwinds through supplier negotiations, customer compensation, and internal savings."

Adjusted operating margin of 9.7% and a full year guide of about 10.5% show the savings are holding up, but the 30 bps margin compression, lower gross margin and cut to the top end of guidance all signal that raw material and logistics friction is still eroding part of the intended structural gain.

Autoliv growth reliance on China and India

The more cautious view is that the story leans too hard on high growth regions and could crack if that momentum fades.

"The current narrative leans heavily on continued outperformance in high growth markets such as China and India. The available information focuses on recent share gains and higher content rather than on how stable these gains are over a full vehicle cycle, so any reversal in contract awards or product mix in these regions could restrain Autoliv's revenue growth and weigh on net income."

Q3 data partly challenges that worry. Sales to Chinese OEMs grew far faster than local light vehicle production and India organic growth was about 30%. Global revenue still slipped 0.5% and organic sales eased about 1%, which shows that strength in those two markets is not yet enough to fully offset softer demand and call off volatility elsewhere.

Hunt For Mispriced Earnings Power

Autoliv shows how a strong margin story can conflict with short term profit pressure. The real opportunity is finding stocks that appear undervalued before the market adjusts its expectations.

  • Company 1 - 31% below our estimate - build custom and foundational chips that connect, secure, and process rising data traffic across hyperscale and enterprise networks.

  • Company 2 - 35% below our estimate - turn recent manufacturing wins in tightly regulated projects into a pipeline of high-complexity production programs.

  • Company 3 - 49% below our estimate - convert a near record backlog of large infrastructure projects into cash while navigating long-running contract disputes.

That is three of the list. See the full list of 29 companies trading below our fair value estimates →
