Bank of Hawaii stock is barely flinching today, slipping about 0.5% to roughly US$69.70, even after a busy run that left the 90 day return down more than 12%. The calm price tape masks a clear headline from the Q3 2026 release. Earnings held firm with basic earnings per share around US$1.50 and net income close to US$59 million, while net interest margin continued to edge higher. For short term traders, that might look like a non event. For anyone thinking in years, the real story is in the earnings power that margin trend points to.

Bank of Hawaii: Margin Upside Put To The Test
"Analysts expect Bank of Hawaii to keep using its low cost, relationship based deposit base and measured loan growth to support earnings as net interest margin trends toward management's 2.9% target and fee income from wealth and advisory businesses holds near recent levels."
That margin and fee story meets a partial milestone this quarter. Bank of Hawaii lifted NIM to 2.82% and recorded a tenth straight period of expansion, helped by fixed rate repricing and swaps. Net interest income of US$156.1m and low mid single digit loan growth guidance back the measured growth claim. Noninterest income of US$42.7m, with management pointing to a normalized US$44m next quarter, broadly supports the idea of fee resilience, although the small Visa charge shows this line is not perfectly smooth.
Bank of Hawaii: Concentration And Funding Risks Probed
"The key requirement is that Bank of Hawaii maintains its conservative credit performance and stable, Hawaii focused loan book while executing on the planned reshaping of higher cost public deposits without eroding core funding."
The risk checklist looks mixed but mostly supportive. Credit quality remains tight, with net charge offs at 9 bps, criticized assets easing and allowances at 1.02% of loans, even after one commercial real estate credit moved to nonaccrual. Hawaii still represents about 91% of loans, so geographic exposure has not eased. On funding, average deposits slipped 0.8% as roughly US$200m of higher cost public deposits ran off, yet noninterest deposits held around 27%, suggesting core balances stayed largely intact this quarter.
