Beiersdorf shares fall as Nivea slump outweighs Eucerin growth

Investing.com -- Beiersdorf shares fell nearly 4% on Tuesday after the Nivea maker reported a 1.3% drop in third-quarter organic sales, as a slump at its flagship brand outweighed double-digit growth at Eucerin.

The company kept its full-year guidance but warned of risks at its tesa adhesives business.

Group net sales were €2.36 billion in the quarter. Over the first nine months, sales were €7.31 billion, an organic decline of 2.8% from a year earlier.

Nivea sales were €1.26 billion, down 4.9% organically. The company said trade-related tensions and retailers running down stock weighed on the quarter, and it expects those factors to fade gradually by the end of the year. It said Nivea sales to shoppers continued to grow globally.

The Derma business, which includes Eucerin and Aquaphor, grew 10.6% organically to €401 million, with growth across regions and categories. Aquaphor's expansion into body care in North America got a strong start.

"Our Derma business with Eucerin and Aquaphor once again outperformed the market," Chief Executive Vincent Warnery said.

La Prairie sales rose 8.5% organically to €117 million, driven mainly by China. Health Care, which includes Hansaplast and Elastoplast, grew 5.7% to €81 million.

Tesa's organic sales fell 4.3% to €422 million as semiconductor shortages hurt its Electronics business. Sales in Africa, Asia and Australia fell 10.7%. Outside Electronics, its broader industry portfolio grew.

Beiersdorf confirmed its 2026 targets. It expects a low-single-digit organic sales decline at group level and an operating profit margin, excluding special factors, of at least 11.8%.

For its Consumer business, it also expects a low-single-digit organic decline and a margin of at least 11.0%, citing a 2.9% organic decline in the first nine months and a tougher fourth-quarter comparison.

For tesa, it still expects flat to slightly higher organic sales and a margin slightly below last year. It said the semiconductor shortage could hurt tesa further and poses a risk to the full-year margin because of its effect on the product mix.
