Daqo New Energy (DQ) Q3 Results Deepen Focus On Margin Losses

Trade DQ on Coinbase

Daqo New Energy came into its Q3 2026 report with a stock that had already cooled, down over the past month and lower again today by about 3% to US$10.69. The solar materials story around Daqo has long been about low costs and future upside, yet the fresh quarter still showed a net loss of US$52.9 million and a basic loss per share of US$3.91.

The real swing factor was margins. Revenue rebounded to US$194.2 million, but a gross margin of negative 31% highlights the impact of current polysilicon pricing and the ongoing inventory reset.

Daqo New Energy: Cash Rich Story Faces Profit Reality

The bullish script says balance sheet strength can carry Daqo New Energy through a downturn while it builds higher value businesses.

"The current valuation suggests that the share price may not fully reflect Daqo New Energy's cash-rich, debt-free balance sheet and its planned expansion into higher-purity polysilicon and AI data center power infrastructure."

On cash, the milestone is real. Readily available funds of about US$2.06b with no debt held up in Q3. On earnings power, the latest quarter moves in the opposite direction. Polysilicon still sells below total production cost, gross margin stayed at a 31% loss, and net loss reached US$52.9 million, so the expansion story is not yet translating into profit.

Daqo Bear Case: Cash Cushion Intact, Profit Engine Missing

Bearish investors worry that Daqo New Energy burns through its cash pile before new businesses start paying for themselves. The concern is clear.

"The main thing that has to go right is that Daqo New Energy turns its low-cost N-type polysilicon position and new AI data center and semiconductor projects into material, cash-generating businesses before its liquidity is significantly eroded."

Latest numbers partly support that fear. Polysilicon still sells below total cost, gross margin stayed deeply negative, and Q3 brought another US$52.9 million loss. Yet liquidity actually improved to about US$2.06b with no debt and operating cash outflow over 9 months of US$215 million. The runway is long, even if profits are not in sight yet.

Hunt Quiet Dislocations Before They Close

Daqo New Energy shows how a strong balance sheet does not ensure straightforward profitability. The real opportunity is spotting stocks that could be undervalued before the market adjusts.

  • Company 1 - 23% below our estimate - uses surgical robotics and smart care tools to handle complex procedures and drive repeat equipment demand.

  • Company 2 - 42% below our estimate - wins contracts as venues and transport projects switch from static signage to software-linked LED display networks.

  • Company 3 - 41% below our estimate - builds protective film and coating capacity so automakers and dealers offer higher margin add-on packages.
