Dear GM Stock Fans, Mark Your Calendars for November 17

Trade GM on Coinbase

General Motors (GM) shares are extending gains on Oct. 28 as investors respond to the Detroit automaker's plans to move its listing from the New York Stock Exchange to Nasdaq. The company expects the change to occur on Nov. 17. Its familiar GM ticker symbol, however, will remain unchanged.

The announcement arrives at a time when General Motors stock is struggling to regain momentum. As of writing, it's hovering around the same price at which it started 2026.

Does the Switch to Nasdaq Matter for GM Stock?

In its press release, GM's management described the switch as consistent with the company's rising focus on technology. While existing shareholders do not need to take any immediate action, the potentially consequential detail for them is eligibility for future Nasdaq-100 ($IUXX) inclusion.

Admission could generate buying from funds tracking that benchmark, although the index hasn't yet announced an inclusion date or guaranteed membership.

All in all, the transfer from NYSE to Nasdaq itself does not change the underlying business. A lasting stock-market benefit would depend on subsequent index decisions and General Motors's ability to translate its tech investments into stronger financial performance.

Tigress Financial Raises Price Target on General Motors Shares

Part of the surge in General Motors shares this morning can also be attributed to a bullish research note from Tigress Financial.

Analysts at the investment firm maintained their "Strong Buy" rating on the automaker and raised their price target to $132, indicating potential upside of about 50% from current levels.

In its research note, Tigress cited military opportunities at GM Defense, recurring revenue from OnStar and Super Cruise, and upcoming Silverado and Sierra vehicles for its constructive view.

General Motors's massive $20 billion buyback authorization could also help drive its stock price higher over time, the firm's analysts added.

Barchart also currently holds an "8% BUY" average opinion on GM, indicating the technical setup is beginning to turn in its favor as well.

Wall Street Remains Bullish on General Motors

While not nearly as bullish as Tigress Financial, other Wall Street firms recommend sticking with General Motors as well.

The consensus rating on GM shares sits at "Strong Buy" currently, with the mean price target of about $98.54 signaling potential for another 20% rally from here.
