Dell Technologies( NYSE:DELL ) currently trades at $424.16, while Wall Street's average price target is $595. That works out to an implied upside of 40.28%.
Dell still sells PCs and storage, but AI servers now drive the story. Last quarter it booked a record $60.9 billion in AI orders and ended with a $95 billion AI backlog (Dell is one of several non-chipmakers quietly powering the AI expansion, a group we profiled in a free report). With the consensus gap above 40%, and Susquehanna's $700 target meaning 65.03% gains, the question is whether the market or the analysts have it wrong.
A Tech-Wide AI Selloff Sent Dell Down 21% in a Month
A broad retreat from AI stocks hit Dell hard. Shares fell 21.02% over the past month, including a 10.8% drop in the latest session. That day, worries that the AI frenzy had pushed prices too high dragged the S&P 500 down 1.8% and the Nasdaq down 2.9%, while Intel( NASDAQ:INTC ) lost 28.6% after a weak profit forecast.

Over the same month, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust( NYSEARCA:SPY ) slipped just 0.91%. That makes Dell's drop far sharper than the broader market's within a sector-wide pullback. Fundamentals held up: the fiscal 2027 EPS consensus drew 23 upward revisions and zero downward revisions in 30 days.
Bears point to a few real issues. Gross margin was 21.1%, operating cash flow came in at only $2.2 billion on $47 billion of revenue, and management described its supply limits as "DRAM, DRAM, DRAM, followed by NAND, NAND, NAND." After a 240.66% year-to-date run, some investors were ready to lock in profits.
Analysts Are Holding Price Targets as High as $735
Of the 29 analysts covering Dell, 6 rate it Strong Buy, 14 rate it Buy, 9 rate it Hold and none rate it Sell. Melius holds the Street-high target at $735. Susquehanna's Mehdi Hosseini reaffirmed a Positive rating and a $700 target, citing durable enterprise AI rack demand, better margins on high-density configurations and sovereign AI deals.
Mizuho's Vijay Rakesh raised his target to $650, meaning 53.24% upside. His view is that Dell's AI Data Platform wins enterprise IT budgets that are moving from hyperscalers into corporate data centers.
The next checkpoint is the third-quarter report, expected in late November. Dell guided for $49 billion in revenue, $19 billion in AI server revenue and EPS of $6.50. For the full year, guidance calls for $192.0 billion in revenue, $74.0 billion in AI server sales and EPS of $25.50.
The shares trade at a forward P/E of about 16, which is low for that growth. Still, these are 12-month calls made before the selloff, and price targets are estimates that can change.
HPE and Super Micro Fell Too, but Dell Fell Hardest
The whole peer group sold off together, and Dell posted the sharper monthly loss of the three.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise( NYSE:HPE ) fell 13.77% over the month. At $55.11 against a $72.44 target, it offers 31.45% implied upside. Of its 24 analysts, 4 rate it Strong Buy, 10 Buy and 10 Hold. Analysts see less upside here than at Dell.
Super Micro Computer( NASDAQ:SMCI ) dropped 19.77%. At $32.95 against a $43.27 target, implied upside is 31.32%. Sentiment is weaker: 11 of 19 analysts rate it Hold, and 3 rate it Sell or Strong Sell.
Dell has the largest analyst-implied upside among these stocks and the strongest Buy support. Analysts see it as the best-positioned name in a sector they believe the market sold too hard.
A 21% Monthly Slide Inside a 240% Annual Run
Dell currently trades at $424.16. The 29 covering analysts set an average target of $595, which meaning 40.28% upside. The stock sits well below its 50-day moving average of $513.89 and its 52-week high of $594.69.
Dell fell 21.02% over the past month, compared with a 0.91% dip for the S&P 500. Year to date, Dell is still up 240.66%, while the S&P 500 has gained 10.82%.
Dell's $95 Billion Backlog Makes This Pullback Worth Studying
Things look more bullish if the third-quarter report shows AI server revenue near $19 billion, margins holding up against memory costs and cash conversion improving. If that happens, the backlog becomes earnings and the move back toward $595 looks reasonable. The downside risk grows if DRAM and NAND shortages squeeze margins, if working capital keeps draining cash, or if the AI capex cycle cools off and backlog stops growing.
I lean bullish. A forward multiple near 16 with rising estimates looks like a reset in sentiment, and the business itself looks sound. Expect heavy volatility until the next earnings report settles the margin question.
