Element Solutions (ESI) Stock Price Falls Despite Record Q3 Earnings

Trade ESI on Coinbase

Element Solutions just printed its Q3 2026 scorecard and the chemicals specialist came out with record adjusted revenue and adjusted earnings, yet the stock still dropped almost 9% on the day to about US$33. The headline story is simple: the business delivered roughly US$995.3 million in sales and US$65.7 million in net income, but sentiment swung hard the other way.

Traders focused on expectations and the recent share slide, not on the fresh high in adjusted profitability. That gap between price reaction and operating performance is where the real story starts for Element Solutions.

Element Solutions' AI Electronics Story Meets Hard Numbers

For the bullish AI and data center pitch around Element Solutions to hold, electronics needs to keep taking more of the load and the big growth projects must move from promise to execution.

"The main factor that has to go right is that Element Solutions continues to execute on its shift toward higher value electronics, including successful ramp up of Kuprion ActiveCopper, Micromax and EFC Gases, while managing raw material and logistics cost pressures."

Q3 shows real progress on that ambition. Electronics organic growth of 18%, Semiconductor Solutions at 24% and ex metals EBITDA margin at 28.2% all point to mix moving the right way. Kuprion hit new qualification milestones and Micromax plus EFC added incremental sales, while company wide margins stayed healthy despite input cost concerns.

Element Solutions Execution Risks Versus Margin And Cash Reality

The more cautious view is that heavy project spend and potential AI demand cooling could crimp returns just as expectations climb.

"If AI and data center related spending normalizes toward the company's medium term growth algorithm, while large capital projects such as Kuprion capacity and Micromax and EFC integration continue to absorb cash, Element Solutions may deliver slower revenue and earnings growth than implied by current expectations."

Recent results cut both ways. Kuprion capex and Micromax and EFC expansion are clearly consuming cash, with Q3 capex at US$30 million and full year targeted near US$110 million. At the same time, adjusted free cash flow of US$135 million and net leverage around 2.7x indicate capacity to fund these builds without obvious balance sheet strain, even as the stock fell about 9% on the print.

Hunt For Mispriced Executions

Element Solutions shows that strong operating results can coincide with a sharp share-price move. The real opportunity is in stocks that could be undervalued before expectations reset.

  • Company 1 - 35% below our estimate - uses a disciplined operating playbook and portfolio pruning to emphasize higher-margin aftermarket, power and nuclear projects.

  • Company 2 - 49% below our estimate - wins long-duration mega contracts and Indo Pacific defense work under tighter bidding discipline and improved contract terms.

  • Company 3 - 50% below our estimate - shifts toward larger fee-based relationships and partnership-driven products to broaden income and capture cost and revenue synergies.
