Hapag-Lloyd shares were up 3.6% at €136.30, outperforming the broader European market, with the STOXX 600 up about 0.3%.

The company now expects 2026 group EBITDA of $3.9 billion to $4.4 billion, compared with its previous forecast of $2.7 billion to $3.7 billion. Its EBIT forecast was raised to $1.25 billion-$1.75 billion, from $100 million-$1.1 billion previously.

The midpoint of the EBITDA forecast therefore rose to about $4.15 billion from $3.2 billion, while the EBIT midpoint increased to $1.5 billion from $600 million.

The upgrade was driven by continued strong demand and the ongoing positive development of spot freight rates, Hapag-Lloyd said.

Container shipping rates have remained supported by tight capacity, including longer sailing routes linked to geopolitical disruptions in the Middle East. Reuters reported that the sector has benefited from congestion and vessels taking longer routes to avoid conflict zones.

Hapag-Lloyd, however, warned that its forecast remains subject to a high degree of uncertainty because of volatile freight rates and persistent geopolitical challenges.

The latest upgrade follows an earlier guidance increase in July, making this another upward revision to the company's 2026 earnings outlook.
