The LesserEvil acquisition contributed 2.1 percentage points to total sales growth, while foreign currency provided a 0.1-point benefit. Pricing remained the primary organic growth driver, particularly in North America Confectionery, reflecting previously implemented strategic pricing actions.

Volume pressure primarily reflected pricing elasticity in North America Confectionery and International, alongside shipment timing and portfolio optimization in International. Management highlighted increasing consumer caution amid higher gas prices, inflation and interest rates, particularly in convenience stores.

Hershey's Adjusted Margins Expand Significantly

Adjusted gross margin expanded 1,090 basis points to 42.7%. Net price realization, productivity savings, tariff refunds and lower net commodity costs more than offset reduced volumes and higher freight and logistics expenses. Adjusted operating profit surged 78.5% to $754 million, while adjusted operating margin expanded 970 basis points to 23%. Advertising and related consumer marketing expenses increased 17.1%, reflecting higher brand investments. North America Salty Snackssales climbed 22.3% to $392.7 million, with LesserEvil contributing approximately 20 percentage points. Organic, constant-currency sales increased 2.3%, supported by roughly 1 point each of volume growth and pricing. However, supply constraints affecting Dot's Pretzels and multipacks restricted shipments. Segment income fell 17.9% to $47.4 million, while the margin contracted 590 basis points to 12.1%, reflecting higher manufacturing, logistics and commodity costs, alongside increased marketing investments.

Hershey's Brand Investments Support Consumer Demand

Hershey continued investing in innovation, marketing and merchandising to strengthen consumer engagement. Third-quarter U.S. retail sales of non-seasonal confectionery, mint and gum increased 2%, while two-year growth accelerated to nearly 4% from 2.5% in the first half.

Management highlighted encouraging results from Hershey Crème Filled Bars and Reese's Oreo, alongside improved marketing effectiveness. However, softer convenience-store trends and ongoing salty snacks supply constraints remained key operational challenges.

HSY's Financial Position and Capital Returns

Cash and cash equivalents totaled $676.7 million, while long-term debt amounted to $4,492.6 million. Capital additions, including software, totaled $101 million, up $15 million year over year. Dividend payments reached $285 million, reflecting a 5% increase.

Hershey Raises Its 2026 Earnings Outlook

Management raised its 2026 net sales growth outlook to approximately 5% from 4.5-5%, while lowering organic sales growth expectations to approximately 3% from 3-3.5%.

Adjusted earnings growth is now projected to be 36-38.5% compared with 32.5-35% previously. This translates to adjusted earnings of $8.58-$8.74 per share, including tariff refund benefits. Management maintained its underlying adjusted earnings growth expectations, excluding tariff refunds.

Hershey expects adjusted gross margin expansion of approximately 370 basis points, including tariff refunds. The company expects capital expenditures of approximately $450 million and interest expenses of $200 million, while savings from its Advancing Agility & Automation program are projected at $100 million.

For 2027, management anticipates continued cocoa cost deflation and low-double-digit earnings recovery, although higher freight costs, broader inflation and consumer spending pressures could constrain growth.
