Investing.com-- Japan Exchange Group on Tuesday said its fiscal first-half earnings rose sharply from last year, aided by soaring trading revenue amid increased foreign buying in local artificial intelligence names.
Japan Exchange Group (TYO:8697), which operates the Tokyo Stock Exchange, said operating income in the six months to September 30 jumped 65.1% to 84.67 billion yen ($540 million).
Revenue jumped 46.7% to 131 billion yen, aided chiefly by sharp increases in cash equity trading values, the bourse operator said in a statement.
Net income attributable to shareholders rose 65.6% to 57.21 billion yen.
Trading services revenue, transaction fees, and cash equity revenues rose sharply in the first half, and were the company's biggest revenue drivers in the period.
Japanese equity trading volumes surged this year, aided in part by foreign inflows into several chipmaking and electronics companies with exposure to the AI trade.
Investors also cheered ongoing corporate reforms at Japan's biggest companies, which are expected to yield more shareholder returns.
Retail trading volumes picked up this year, while heightened volatility, stemming from the U.S.-Iran conflict, also boosted volumes.
Japan Exchange Group maintained its forecast for the year to March 2027, with operating revenue seen rising 27.1% to 252.50 billion yen, while operating income is expected to rise nearly 33% to 154.50 billion yen.
