Quick Read

  • BCIC yields ~15% but NAV crashed from $15.60 to $14.49 in one quarter, while OCCI yields ~30% after cutting its dividend 57% and falling 50% year to date.

  • HRZN's $0.09 October payout includes a $0.03 special dividend funded by limited spillover income, with NAV down to $6.23 from $7.57 a year ago.

  • Missing the ex-date means the seller collects the dividend instead, so ownership must be established before October 15 for BCIC and OCCI, and before October 16 for OXLC and HRZN.

  • Just released. Our analysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now, and BCP Investment Corp. didn't make the cut. Enter your email to see the names that beat BCIC. The report is free. Enter your email and see if any of your stocks made the cut.

Two of the ultra-high-yield names below go ex-dividend tomorrow, October 15, 2026. That makes today, Wednesday, October 14, the final day to buy them and collect their October payments. The other two go ex-dividend a day later, on October 16. Every date below is confirmed in dividend data, and each payout went through a coverage check before it made the list. Four names passed.

How it works:you must own the shares before the ex-dividend date to get the payment, and if you buy on the ex-date or later, the seller keeps that dividend. The pay date is just the day the cash shows up in your account.

BCP Investment (BCIC): Last Day to Buy Is Today

For a BDC, coverage comes down to net investment income (NII). Second-quarter GAAP NII came in at $0.45 per share, ahead of the $0.41 consensus. That figure was inflated by $2.23M of purchase-discount accretion left over from earlier mergers. Strip that out and core NII was $0.27, exactly equal to the $0.27 in base payouts for the quarter. The distribution is covered, but with no room to spare. The balance sheet looks stronger: the KeyBank facility doubled to $150 million and now matures in August 2031.

Risk:NAV per share dropped sharply. It fell to $14.49 from $15.60 in a single quarter, and about 47% of the unrealized losses were in software-exposed names. The shares are down 32.68% year to date, which accounts for a large part of the yield.

OFS Credit Company (OCCI): Deadline Also Today

OFS Credit Company( NASDAQ:OCCI ), a closed-end fund that owns CLO equity, pays $0.05 per month. The ex-dividend date is October 15, 2026 and the pay date is October 30, so today is the last day to buy. The $0.60 annualized payout on a $2.02 share price is a yield of about 29.7%.

For the fiscal quarter ended July 31, 2026, OCCI reported per-share earnings of $0.21. Three monthly payments at the current rate add up to a payout ratio of about 71%. The quarter before, earnings of $0.15 matched the payout exactly. After the reset, the payout is covered.

Risk:that reset was a cut, from $0.115 to $0.05, starting in March 2026. The stock is down 50.12% year to date. It has fallen 21.29% over the past month, so most of the yield comes from the falling price. CLO equity takes the first losses when loans default.

Oxford Lane Capital (OXLC): One Extra Day to Act

Oxford Lane Capital( NASDAQ:OXLC ) pays $0.20 per month. Shares go ex-dividend October 16, 2026 and pay October 30, so the last day to buy is October 15. The $2.40 annualized payout on an $8.44 share price is a yield of about 28.4%.

Core NII best measures distributable income for CLO equity funds. It is based on the cash the fund actually gets from its CLO holdings. In Oxford Lane's July results release, core NII for the June quarter was higher than the distributions paid over the same period. The dividend calendar also shows $0.20 payments for November and December.

Risk:the payout was cut in half, from $0.40 through March 2026 to $0.20 starting in April. Core NII is a non-GAAP measure, and that cut shows it does not protect the payout. The shares are down 29.95% over the past year.

Horizon Technology Finance (HRZN): Buy by October 15, Paid in November

Horizon Technology Finance( NASDAQ:HRZN ) goes ex-dividend October 16, 2026 with a $0.09 payment. It includes a $0.06 regular distribution plus a $0.03 special funded by spillover income. You need to buy by October 15, but the cash does not arrive until November 16. Priced at $4.55, the regular payout alone yields about 15.8%, and 23.7% with the special included.

In the first quarter, NII of $0.19 covered $0.18 in distributions. Second-quarter NII fell to $0.11 after $4.44M of one-time merger costs took out about $0.07 per share. Management said distributions would have been covered without those costs. Net leverage of 65%, against a 120% target, plus a $228M committed backlog gives Horizon room to grow income.

Risk:NAV per share fell to $6.23 from $7.57 a year earlier, mostly because of a large loss on one portfolio company. The special payout comes from a limited pool of spillover income, and venture lending carries higher credit risk. For more detail, see our earlier look at whether Horizon's income is safe enough to count on.

Miss the Ex-Date, Miss the Check

It's worth pointing out that single dividend is a weak reason to buy a stock. One payment does little for an income portfolio if NAV keeps shrinking, which is why BDC income investors are facing smaller checks in 2026, and two of the names above have already cut once this year (we listed seven signs that usually precede a cut in a free report here). The deadlines don't move: BCIC and OCCI must be owned before October 15 and OXLC and HRZN before October 16. If you miss the ex-date, the seller gets the October payment instead.
