OGE Energy (OGE) Stock Shrugs Off Q3 Results As Margin Gains Meet Tariff Risk

Trade OGE on Coinbase

OGE Energy just reported Q3 2026 results that landed with a whisper, not a shock. The stock barely moved, slipping about 0.1% to US$48.87 after the release, even as earnings per share printed at roughly US$1.53 and net income came in around US$316 million. That calm tape masks a sharper story. This quarter was all about profit power, with a stronger net margin profile feeding into raised full year earnings guidance, while the market treated it like business as usual.

OGE bullish data center story gets partial backing

The upbeat view rests on OGE Energy turning big tech demand and a large build program into a durable earnings engine.

"Progress in attracting energy intensive customers such as Google data centers, supported by long-term special contracts that include minimum charges, customer funded interconnection and 600 megawatts of associated solar capacity, along with 6 to 7 additional active large-load negotiations under the new Oklahoma large-load tariff, provides a pipeline of potential multi hundred megawatt commitments that can add to future revenue and earnings visibility."

Q3 results show higher load, much hotter weather and several new peaks, plus 544 MW already in service and Horseshoe Lake Unit 15 moving through preapproval. Raised 2026 EPS guidance and a stable credit outlook suggest the buildout is advancing, although much of the uplift still leans on extreme summer demand rather than contracted data center volume alone.

Regulatory and cost sharing risks still in play

The risk story focuses on whether regulators and large users will actually accept how OGE Energy splits the bill for this expansion.

"The recent denial of construction work in progress recovery for new natural gas units at the Horseshoe Lake plant and the related legal disputes over billing language highlight a more contentious regulatory backdrop for OGE Energy. If similar outcomes occur on future projects it could delay cost recovery, compress allowed returns and pressure net margins and earnings."

Recent Oklahoma legislation that supports CWIP recovery and creates a 180 day preapproval timeline reduces some uncertainty, and management is leaning into preapproval for Horseshoe Lake 15 and other units. At the same time, the contested large load tariff, opposition from Google and others to delaying hearings, and active disputes over power access show that cost sharing and tariff design remain unresolved pressure points despite stronger Q3 margins.
