Oshkosh just dropped its Q3 2026 scorecard and the trading floor liked the headline. The stock closed at US$139.94, up 3.5% on the day, as investors latched onto raised free cash flow guidance of US$600 million to US$700 million even while adjusted earnings per share landed at US$2.41 and full year EPS guidance was cut to US$8.50 to US$9.50.
That one day relief rally signals that traders are rewarding cash generation and treating the Pierce production hit as a passing execution problem rather than a lasting profitability reset.

Oshkosh bull case: backlog and tech under scrutiny
Optimists lean heavily on Oshkosh converting its big project exposure and new technology into richer mix and margin. The ambition is clear.
"Expansion of large-scale infrastructure projects and growth in data center construction is now visible in Oshkosh Access orders, with recent book-to-bill above 1 and a sizeable backlog that points to multi-year support for segment revenue and earnings."
Q3 backs this up on the Access side. Sales there reached US$1.3b with an 11.2% adjusted operating margin and US$2.7b of backlog plus US$2b of quarterly orders. That strength contrasts with weaker Vocational profit and lower group EPS guidance, so the bull case is working in one engine, not yet the whole machine.
Oshkosh bear case: fire and program risk tested
On the risk side, critics focus on whether complex manufacturing changes and contract exposure can quietly erode the story. The concerns are specific.
"The slower than planned fire truck production ramp has already led to lower 2026 adjusted EPS guidance and Vocational margins below earlier expectations. If Oshkosh struggles to achieve the targeted throughput gains in Pierce operations, Vocational margins and overall earnings could remain below the levels implied by the current narrative."
Q3 largely validates that worry. Vocational revenue slipped to US$900m and adjusted operating income dropped by about US$49m as fire volumes fell roughly 20% year on year and transition costs rose. Management cut full year EPS guidance to US$8.50 to US$9.50 and signaled extended disruption, even while keeping 2028 volume targets in place.
