The S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Index (ASX: XSO) extended its decline on Wednesday, shedding 55.50 points or 1.74% to close at 3,134.80, as selling pressure continued across the smaller end of the Australian share market.

The index has fallen 149.40 points or 4.55% over the past five trading sessions, reflecting sustained weakness among small-cap stocks.

Despite the broader market downturn, company activity continued across the resources sector, with International Graphite securing a binding graphite supply agreement to support its Western Australian processing operations, while Alkane Resources outlined further exploration plans at its Peak Hill Gold Project in New South Wales.

International Graphite secures feedstock for Collie facility

International Graphite Ltd ( ASX:IG6 , FRA:H99 , OTC:IGRPF ) has signed a binding graphite concentrate supply agreement with Wogen Pacific Limited to provide feedstock for its Collie Micronising Facility in Western Australia.

The agreement represents a significant step in the company's mine-to-market strategy, allowing it to commence operations at Collie without the upfront capital expenditure and operational risks associated with developing its own mining operations.

Wogen brings extensive experience in international graphite concentrate trading and established relationships with mining operations worldwide.

The trading group has previously sourced much of the graphite processed at International Graphite's Collie Research and Development and Qualification Facility.

The supply arrangement strengthens International Graphite's ability to establish downstream graphite processing operations while reducing its immediate exposure to mining development costs.

Alkane Resources plans 6,600-metre drilling program at Peak Hill

Alkane Resources Ltd ( ASX:ALK , OTC:ALKEF ) is preparing a 6,600-metre drilling program at its Peak Hill Gold Project in New South Wales following deep exploration drilling that identified geological features associated with a potential copper-gold porphyry system.

The company completed diamond drill hole PHD084 to a depth of 1,651 metres beneath the Great Eastern open cut, intersecting alteration that suggests the targeted porphyry environment may lie deeper than initially anticipated.

The drilling also intersected advanced argillic alteration approximately 1 kilometre vertically beneath the Proprietary open cut, indicating that the geological system associated with previously mined gold mineralisation continues at depth.

Assays returned elevated gold and copper within sulphide mineralisation, although grades were lower than those recorded in shallower drilling.

Alkane said the results could indicate a transition towards a deeper porphyry environment or suggest that the drill hole intersected the outer margins of a higher-grade system.

The company has commissioned a geological study to assess the potential location of porphyry intrusions relative to the completed drill hole.

Supported by a $165,000 NSW Critical Minerals exploration grant, Alkane plans to begin its next drilling campaign in November.

The program will target the area between PHD084 and the existing Proprietary Inferred Resource to assess the continuity of mineralisation at depth and determine whether the previous drilling missed the higher-grade core of the system.
