SNDL (NasdaqCM:SNDL) Stock Faces A Q3 Earnings Cash Flow Puzzle

Trade SNDL on Coinbase

SNDL came into this Q3 2026 report as a low P/S cannabis and liquor hybrid that many investors still view as a turnaround story. The stock barely flinched after the release, slipping about 0.8% to $1.29, yet the headline result was anything but flat. Management delivered record free cash flow of $20.0m and swung back to positive adjusted operating income of $5.2m, while still reporting a net loss. That gap between a soft share price move and cleaner underlying cash generation is where this quarter really bites for SNDL holders.

SNDL bull case meets mixed execution reality

Supporters argue SNDL's international push and cost work are building a higher quality business.

"Strong international growth initiatives, supported by significant working capital investments and the ramp-up of the Atholville cultivation facility, position SNDL to capitalize on expanding global acceptance and legalization of cannabis, particularly in high-margin European export markets, which can drive future revenue and margin expansion."

Q3 shows some of that discipline in action with record free cash flow and positive adjusted operating income. Yet cannabis operations produced a loss at both gross profit and adjusted operating income level, and group revenue fell 2.5%. The cash milestone is real, but Atholville and export ambitions are not yet visible in reported profitability.

SNDL bear case on cash strain not yet resolved

On the risk side, critics worry that expansion soaks up cash faster than it earns it.

"SNDL's continued negative free cash flow, despite positive operating income, is being driven by significant working capital investments and capital expenditures to support international expansion and new store openings; if growth fails to materialize as planned, these investments could weigh on cash reserves, eventually impacting earnings sustainability and net margins."

This quarter pushes back on that worry with record free cash flow of $20.0m, helped by a captive insurance unwind, while adjusted operating income turned positive. At the same time, reported net loss widened and cash declined by $50.7m after heavy investment and buybacks. The print shows progress on internal efficiency, but the broader liquidity concern is not fully closed.

Hunt For Quiet Fundamental Shifts

SNDL just showed how cleaner cash metrics can sit beside a wider net loss without causing a large share price reaction. The real opportunity could be in stocks where a similar disconnect in fundamentals and valuation is still developing.

  • Company 1 - 23% below our estimate - uses AI centric networking gear and data center infrastructure to secure long term, higher margin service contracts.

  • Company 2 - 34% below our estimate - expands high horsepower engine capacity so it can supply more long duration data center power projects.

  • Company 3 - 40% below our estimate - builds protective films and coatings factories that support higher margin installation, dealer and OEM supply agreements across regions.
