Investing.com -- UniCredit S.p.A. received authorization from the European Central Bank to increase its equity stake in Commerzbank AG beyond 30%, with no upper limit on further increases.
The ECB's decision marks a key step in UniCredit's acquisition of the German bank. The approval reflects the ECB's positive view of the transaction and UniCredit's financial position within the European banking sector.
UniCredit expects to complete the remaining regulatory processes and conditions for the Commerzbank offer around year end. At that time, the Italian bank will hold approximately 50% of Commerzbank's voting rights and gain control of the German lender.
