Sergej Kunz, the co-founder of the DEX aggregator 1inch, said the biggest problem in decentralized finance (DeFi) isn't the technology itself, but how complicated it has become for ordinary people to use.
Every blockchain , he said, has been building its own island, and users are the ones getting lost, he added.

In an interview with TheStreet Roundtable host Jackson Hinkle, Kunz talked about how the complex nature of blockchain ecosystems has confused users and how 1inch is here to help them navigate the increasingly complicated world of DeFi.
"So the problem is not that we have these networks and different protocols of this fragmented liquidity," Kunz said. "The problem is we have no single place where someone from the street could come and simply intuitively understand how to exchange assets until we announced 1inch.com, our unified platform for everyone."
He described the new platform as a breakthrough for usability in crypto. "So it feels highly intuitive, simple, same as in Citrus Exchange, but without giving assets away to someone who can gamble with it," he said.

A unified experience
Kunz said that for too long, decentralized exchanges have been fighting separate battles for liquidity and users. "No one really understands where to go," he said. "Even the crypto traders on centralized exchanges, only 2% of these people use decentralized finance. And that's the problem."
For him, the solution comes down to simplifying everything, one entry point and one experience. "Actually, from my point of view, we are solving this with 1inch.com, unifying the user experience and giving a simple user experience, like Apple does."

The comparison was deliberate. Kunz said 1inch's goal is to make crypto interface as effortless and familiar as those on consumer apps that dominate traditional technology.
"People should not have to think about what chain they are on or what liquidity pool they are using," he said. "It should just work."
As per Kunz, unification is not just a product strategy, it is the only way decentralized finance can truly grow.
