Cloudflare suffered another major outage on Nov. 18 that impacted several leading websites, including leading crypto platforms.
The social media platform X, which is among the leading discussion hubs for the crypto community, also remained inaccessible to a large number of users for some time.

"A fix has been implemented and we believe the incident is now resolved. We are continuing to monitor for errors to ensure all services are back to normal," Cloudflare said in an update at 14:42 UTC.
Cloudflare's chief technology officer, Dane Knecht, admitted to failing customers and offered an apology in an X post . "This was not an attack," he instead blamed "a latent bug" for the incident.
Changpeng Zhao "CZ," the billionaire founder of the world's largest crypto trading exchange, Binance, shared a terse three-word response to the latest Cloudflare outage, "Blockchain kept working."
Why blockchain worked despite Cloudflare outage
Blockchain technology is the foundation of the crypto industry. A blockchain is nothing but a digital ledger that isn't owned or controlled by any single person or company. Instead, it is spread across a vast network of people, all of whom validate and confirm that everything recorded on the ledger is correct.
When a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH) is sent from one user to another, the transaction is bundled with other such transactions into a "block."

Each block containing these crypto transactions is validated and confirmed by a vast number of users so that nobody has a centralized authority to decide whether a transaction is legitimate or not.
Once a block goes through this process, it is added to a chain of previous blocks. Hence the name: block-chain.
What is unique to a blockchain is that once a block is added, it cannot be altered. Nobody can go back to change what's written in a block that is already locked in.
What blockchain technology achieves is decentralization and trustlessness. It means neither does a central authority control a blockchain, nor is there a central intermediary like a bank or a government that you need to trust with sensitive financial information.

It is these features that make blockchains resilient against vulnerabilities that other platforms come under due to their dependence on centralized services like Cloudflare — what Zhao underlined in his X post.
Nonetheless, a few crypto platforms that rely on the internet infrastructure platform suffered the outage.
The BitMEX crypto trading platform, the on-chain analytics platform DeFiLlama, and the Abritrum block explorer Arbiscan got disrupted for some time due to the latest Cloudflare outage.
Will Papper, Co-Founder of Syndicate, said:
"The Cloudflare outage isn't an isolated event; it's a consequence of how the modern internet is architected. We've concentrated critical functions like DNS, routing, traffic filtering, and API gateways into a few centralised coordination layers that determine how traffic flows and whether websites and services remain reachable. To avoid repeat events, we need more decentralised, fault-tolerant infrastructure that doesn't hinge on any single provider."
