HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd (TSX:HIVE, NASDAQ:HIVE, FRA:YO0, BVC:HIVECO) earlier this week highlighted the appointment of capital markets veteran Hubert Marleau to the board of its high-performance computing subsidiary BuzzHPC, as the business prepares for further expansion in Canada.
CFO Darcy Daubaras told Proactive that Marleau's appointment represented an important step in the development of BuzzHPC, with the subsidiary seeking to ensure its governance capabilities keep pace with the scaling of the business.
Daubaras said Marleau brings more than five decades of experience in Canadian and US capital markets and has served as a director of more than 50 public companies.
"This is a really important appointment for the next stage of our subsidiary, BuzzHPC," Daubaras said.
He added that Marleau would bring an independent perspective at a time when capital allocation, governance and accountability are becoming increasingly strategic considerations for BuzzHPC.
The appointment comes as BuzzHPC continues to build out infrastructure in Canada. Daubaras highlighted the company's relationship with Bell Canada and said BuzzHPC plans to put two clusters into a facility in Merritt, British Columbia.
The planned deployment represents a potential operational catalyst as BuzzHPC expands its Canadian infrastructure. Marleau's appointment could provide an additional corporate catalyst by adding extensive capital markets and governance experience to the board as the subsidiary pursues that growth.
Daubaras said Marleau's background working in Canadian markets and with exchanges could help BuzzHPC navigate its expansion more effectively.
"This is an important signal to the markets for BuzzHPC in terms of how we're intending to grow," Daubaras said.
He stressed that the company's ambitions would be accompanied by a focus on governance, disciplined capital allocation and independent oversight.
Daubaras said Marleau's experience and connections could be "instrumental to the next phase of BuzzHPC and HIVE as the parent company."
