As blockchain technology continues to mature, its applications are finding relevance beyond isolated crypto ecosystems, bridging the gap with traditional finance.
Roundtable anchor, Rob Nelson, hosted a discussion with Bentzi Rabi, Co-Founder and CEO at Utila; Patrick Zielbauer, Managing Director of Sales at BlockFills ; and Kevin Lehtiniitty, CEO at Borderless.xyz, exploring how blockchain and stablecoins are transforming institutional and individual financial practices.
"Blockchain is not just one island," said Bentzi Rabi. "It's a world of islands, ecosystems and use cases. While initially centered on trading, crypto is shifting toward applications like stablecoins, which replicate traditional payment flows more efficiently." He emphasized that these advancements make existing processes smoother without creating entirely new systems.
Nelson highlighted the mainstream implications of this shift, asking Patrick Zielbauer how it affects everyday investors. Zielbauer explained, "Anyone working in international trade or experiencing delays with fiat settlements will see opportunities. Their companies are likely already exploring these solutions through firms like BlockFills." He noted that the adoption of stablecoins is making payments more seamless, particularly in areas like treasury management and remittance.
As the conversation deepened, Zielbauer predicted an increasing presence of crypto in daily life. "Widgets enabling payments with stablecoins like USDC or Tether will become more common. But the real shift comes when companies incorporate these technologies into everyday operations, impacting people in ways they don't yet realize," he said.
Kevin Lehtiniitty agreed, explaining two primary adoption paths. "The obvious one is people paying with stablecoins at checkout, saving merchants processing fees. The less visible one involves stablecoins facilitating real-time transactions in emerging markets. These backend processes enhance remittance flows and trade settlements without users even noticing," he shared.
Nelson pointed out the speed of this evolution. "It's happening faster than people realize. Companies might already be adopting blockchain solutions behind the scenes," he remarked. Lehtiniitty expanded on this, noting that stablecoin infrastructure is addressing issues like inflation and delayed settlements in regions such as Latin America and Southeast Asia.
For investors, these developments signify more than just technological advancements—they indicate a profound shift in how financial systems operate, bridging gaps between the old and the new.
