Veteran trader and market analyst Peter Brandt has led an illustrious career over five decades during which he has often corrected predicted key trends.
However, it was his prediction of gold' historic reversal in the 1980s that established him as one of the sharpest analysts in the market.

Brandt's historic price predictions
As inflation forced traders to flock toward hard assets during the late 1970s, gold rallied and hit a record high price of $850 per oz by January 1980.
But as the Federal Reserve implemented aggressive interest rate hikes to combat inflation, gold quickly plunged roughly 50% to approach $450 per oz.
By mid-1982, gold had fallen more than 60% from its peak.
When the "digital gold," as Bitcoin (BTC) maximalists call the crypto asset, hit north of $10,000 in January 2018, Brandt predicted that it would crash below $4,000 in 2018.
BTC indeed fell below $4,000 in December 2018.

Brandt compares silver to Monero
On Jan. 11, Brandt shared a price analysis chart comparing the long-term trajectories of silver and Monero (XMR) and addressed the trading community.
"If you cannot figure out what I am telling you here then I could never be of any value to your thinking,"he wrote on X.
Launched in 2014, Monero (XMR) allows crypto transactions to take place privately and anonymously. Its advanced cryptography makes tracing XMR transactions very hard to trace.
Silver also hit a new all-time high (ATH) of $86.22 per oz on Jan. 12.
Brandt shows that silver spiked in 1980 and then lay dormant for a long time. It again hit a new ATH in 2011 and then kept trading sideways for years until 2025-26.
The XMR price chart mirrors the silver price chart, Brandt highlighted. While it peaked in 2018 and 2021, it similarly kept trading sideways for the rest of the years and is now eyeing a breakout.
Though XMR has traded largely below its 2018 peak for the last seven years, it hit a new ATH of $613.31 on Jan. 12.
The privacy-focused cryptocurrency has surged more than 30% over the last two days.
