Investing.com -- Chinese artificial intelligence developers expect to receive just a fraction of the advanced chips ordered from NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA) over the coming months, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.
Alibaba, Tencent, Bytedance, and other Chinese AI and cloud majors ordered about 6 million of Nvidia's RTX Pro 5500 chips worth $70 billion, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
But they only expect to get some ten thousand chips, or roughly 1%, within the next four months, the Bloomberg report said.
The muted expectations come as Nvidia struggles to shore up production capacity and meet surging demand for its advanced AI chips, as the data center buildout showed few signs of easing.
