Scott Melker explains the latest updates crypto investors need to know regarding Coinbase ( COIN ), Deribit, and Coinbase Pro.
The first one here is Coinbase. Coinbase completes Deribit integration and says Coinbait, Coinbase Pro returns by year end.
So, you might remember that one of the huge acquisitions in the space, Coinbase bought Deribit. Deribit, the biggest by many, many, many measures of volume uh futures exchange in crypto but was not Ameri available to Americans. It still may not be.
So, very important to understand that this news doesn't mean that everything that Coinbase is doing will be available to everyone because as you know, Americans hate fun. And if you think Americans hate fun, New Yorkers, of all Americans, they hate fun the most because they're the ones who are the most contentious for the crypto industry.
But now the integration is officially done, which means that we have spot trading futures, perpetuals, and Deribit's major crypto options business all available in one platform.
So, they're also saying Coinbase that their regulated US derivatives business will soon connect eligible American customers with that global derivatives liquidity coming from Deribit, which means more traders will be accessing the same markets rather than having capital scattered across the separate platforms.
Now, interestingly, Coinbase Pro is coming back.
Now you might remember, GDAX became Coinbase Pro, which became Advanced, which is becoming Pro again.
So the only people trading more actively than the actual customers on Coinbase is the branding department.
Quibase Pro, it's coming back and to be honest, I'm here for it. They also have prime, by the way, their institutional custody.
So it seems that now Coinbase Pro is going to be all encompassing and offer almost everything. We've talked about the idea of all of these exchanges competing to be the all-in-one app, the everything exchange, and Coinbase continues to do it.
