Zentek Files Technical Report Confirming US$3.85 Billion NPV for Albany Graphite Project

Zentek CEO Moe Jiwan joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the filing of the company's independent technical report for its Albany graphite project in Northern Ontario, formally confirming the results outlined in the preliminary economic assessment released earlier this year.

Jiwan said the report highlights the significant economic potential of the Albany project, which generated an after-tax net present value of approximately US$3.85 billion using a 5% discount rate. The study also outlined an after-tax internal rate of return of 27.4%, a payback period of 4.4 years, and estimated initial capital expenditures of approximately US$870 million.

The Albany project is designed as a long-life operation with a planned mine life of 30 years and expected annual production of approximately 30,000 tonnes of finished ultra-high-purity graphite products. The economic model is based on an average weighted selling price of US$23,480 per tonne, reflecting the company's focus on specialty graphite markets rather than traditional commodity graphite sales.

Jiwan emphasized that Albany's value proposition is built around producing a highly engineered, specification-grade graphite product. Using Zentek's proprietary acid-free fluidized bed reactor purification process, the company has achieved bench-scale purity levels of 99.99985% carbon. The process has produced four certified graphite grades ranging from 4N to 5N purity, targeting applications in nuclear energy, advanced batteries, defence technologies, and other high-performance industrial sectors.

With the independent report now filed on SEDAR, Zentek is turning its attention toward the next major development milestone: a pre-feasibility study. Jiwan noted that much of the groundwork for the PFS has already begun while the PEA was being completed.

The upcoming study will focus on further resource definition, mine design optimization, flotation and purification testing, scaling up the fluidized bed reactor technology, infrastructure planning, and environmental baseline studies. In parallel, the company will continue product qualification programs aimed at securing future customers in nuclear, defence, and advanced materials markets.

and that route's given us a product at 99.99985% carbon. Uh of course at bench scale for now. And so that one route's produced four certified grades, a 5N for nuclear applications, a 4N plus uh grade for coated spherical grade uh batteries and a uh and a 4N powder for coatings and additives.

00:20 Steve

Welcome back inside our proactive news room and joining me now is Mo Jowan. He is the CEO of ZenTec and Mo, it's good to see you. How are you?

00:30 Mo Jowan

Yeah, thanks Steve. No, doing good. early day for you, of course.

00:35 Steve

Yeah, but uh good to have you along. excited to learn a bit more about what's going on within the company. I know that uh you you you had some news out and we should probably start with that because you had filed your your technical report. So, maybe you could bring everyone up to date on on sort of what they should know about this technical report.

00:54 Mo Jowan

Yeah, so thanks Steve. No, it's a big day for us. You know, this morning we we filed the independent technical report behind our Albany PA uh ondar. Uh and what it does is it confirms the numbers we announced on August 10th, which is an after tax net present value of US $3.85 billion at a 5% discount rate and an after tax IRR of 27.4%. Of course a payback of 4.4 and an initial uh CAPEX of 870 million. All all the numbers are US dollars.

01:29 Mo Jowan

Uh as you might know Steve, Albany is in North uh northern Ontario near Hurst or as we say near Erst. Uh the plan is for a 30 mine uh 30-year mine life uh producing about 30,000 tons a year of finished ultra high purity graphite. average weighted price of 23 point uh 23,480 uh thousand a ton, sorry. Uh, what's what's important is that the price reflects what the product is. Uh we're not a commodity here. We're not selling a commodity graphite. Uh we're spelling uh we're selling a specification. And it's that specification is where Albany stands out, right? And it starts with uh an acid-free cludized bed reactor route. uh and that route's given us a product at 99.99985% carbon uh of course at bench scale for now.

02:26 Mo Jowan

And so that one route's produced four certified grades, a 5N for nuclear applications, a 4N plus uh grade for coded spherical grade uh batteries and a uh and a 4N powder for coatings and additives. And and what's great is we actually hold multi kilogram quantities of all of these uh to support our product our customer evaluation programs.

02:45 Mo Jowan

And so, you know, we should say that as NP, of course, it's preliminary, uh it includes uh inferred resources. Uh but what's important is that finally today Albany has an independent filed economic foundation and uh and that's what we build on going forward.

03:07 Steve

Yeah. So what where does that take you now from from this particular point with the the numbers that you just saw uh to the pre feasibility study.

03:19 Mo Jowan

Yeah, no, a great question. So the great news is, of course my con say so in the report, uh they recommend that we advance Albany to a PFS study. And so we're moving on that. In fact, uh we started earlier while we were wrapping up the PEA, we were already starting to work in PFS mode as we as we call it.

03:41 Mo Jowan

So if you consider our company's energy, you know, we we went from engaging my con to PA results in about four months. And so our intention is that we're going to bring that same focus uh driven approach to our PFS campaign, uh at least the the execution of it.

04:02 Mo Jowan

And so really PFS is where goes from a study to an engineered project. and it's going to cover uh, you know, a resource definition, mind design, flotation and purification test work, including very important for us, uh the scale up of the fluidized bed reactor, the side infrastructure for the tailings management and of course the um the uh the very important environmental baseline.

04:41 Mo Jowan

Now, uh running alongside of that because we're in a very specific market is our product qualification that I mentioned earlier. So this is where uh buyers for nuclear, buyers for defense, uh you know, they they purchase like I said earlier on a specification. So we start qualifying the baseline products, right? And so very much like pharma, uh those markets look for uh consistency across large batches, right? And so we've already certified the material to 4N, sorry, mean ranges from 4N to 5N and uh so we look forward to delivering those for for further evaluation.

05:22 Mo Jowan

You mentioned very, very important. I should have said that at the beginning of the call is, it's a team sport and Albany, of course, sits on the traditional territory of Constant State Nation.

05:33 Mo Jowan

Now, what we do differently is I'm actually fortunate, I lead the relationship with Constant State uh directly. So, uh, me and Chief Allen and the community, we work together, uh, we're working together to develop uh training programs, jobs, business opportunities. I was just there last week as we opened the new uh community uh skating arena for for their hockey program. And and we had uh, you know, of course, everybody was there. So, uh the the site itself, the deposit itself is well placed. It's uh something that people don't notice is it's only 30 kilometers north of the Trans Canada Highway. Wow. That's it. Yeah. It already has uh a segment of rail, it already has power, already has uh natural gas all nearby. And so this is where of course, Ontario's one project, uh one process framework is potentially going to become our our um route to permitty. And and uh just, you know, before I forget, um our shareholders of course learn more about all this on November 26th at our AGM.

06:19 Steve

Yeah. Uh so

06:21 Steve

obviously you've got a lot of things going on and and there's a lot of work happening as well and it sounds like you're you're you're moving at light speed to get all this stuff done. Is that sort of the things that separate uh Zentek from other graphite companies?

06:44 Mo Jowan

No, certainly, I think, you know, it's a great question. There are a lot of things that separate Albany or Zentex, sorry, from other companies. Uh, it's our company and it's a very special product. We I think we all say that, right? But I think the key differentiator for mark for the markets to to notice is that not only are we deposit in development, but we're the only deposit in Ontario that is graph fighting.

07:11 Mo Jowan

that is going into PFS, the only one. On top of that, we're the only one who already has revenue. No one at our stage typically has revenue. And what when I mean by that is we have a a graphene development platform where we take graphene or graphite and develop products. and we already have products in market. There's some in industrial and consumer use and now moving into defense uh with some of the announcements you might have seen around our EMI coatings.

07:44 Steve

Yeah. It sounds like it's uh exciting times ahead. Lots of stuff that's on the go and as you mentioned, uh having that revenue coming in is always a bonus for the company as well. So, Mo, uh thanks very much. Really good uh really good update on on where you're at and obviously where you're headed and uh can't thank you enough for taking the time to share it with us.

08:04 Mo Jowan

My pleasure. Thank you, Steve.

08:06 Steve

All right, good to see you. There's Mo Jowan, the CEO of Zentek.

Jiwan also highlighted Albany's strategic location in Northern Ontario. The project sits approximately 30 kilometres north of the Trans-Canada Highway and benefits from proximity to existing rail infrastructure, electrical power, and natural gas services, factors that could help support future development and operational efficiency.

The project is located on the traditional territory of Constance Lake First Nation, and Jiwan said relationship-building with the community remains a key priority. He noted that he personally leads engagement efforts and described ongoing discussions focused on training opportunities, employment creation, and long-term business participation.

Beyond the project itself, Jiwan pointed out that Zentek occupies a unique position within Ontario's graphite sector. He said Albany is currently the only graphite deposit in the province advancing toward the pre-feasibility stage while also benefiting from a company structure that already generates revenue through a growing portfolio of graphene-based products.

Those commercial activities span industrial, consumer, and defence markets, providing Zentek with an operational platform that distinguishes it from many traditional development-stage resource companies.Jiwan said the combination of a world-class graphite asset, proprietary purification technology, strategic infrastructure access, and existing commercial operations positions Zentek to pursue opportunities across multiple high-value markets as the Albany project continues to advance toward development.
