Barrett Art Center/ DCAA

A Greek Revival home dating back to 1830, the Barrett Art Center features intricately-designed moldings and marble fireplaces. Living up to its mission to cultivate an appreciation for visual arts in the Duchess County, the center provides a point of rendezvous for artists and art lovers to view, exhibit, discuss, create and learn about art. The center also hosts various exhibitions and classes to help individual hone and boast their skills. The gallery is opened Wednesdays to Fridays between 10:00a and 4:00p, and on Saturdays by appointment only.

Kimlin Cider Mill

One of the older cider mills in America, the historic Kimlin Cider Mill in the Town of Poughkeepsie is listed on the New York State and National Register of Historic Places. The Kimlin family owned this cider mill which was a part of their large agricultural farm in the early 1850s. In a bid to expand, the farming operations were turned into a mill and a curiosities museum was also made for the public. In times to come, the cider mill became a big attraction for local and far away residents. That’s when the Cider Mill Friends decided to start a mission for protection and restoration of this great open space.

The Poughkeepsie Post Office

Designed by Gerald Foster this post office, one of five in the Dutchess County, adopts a Colonial Revival style of architecture. Franklin Roosevelt had personally taken interest in this building and even laid its cornerstone in 1937. Taking two years, to complete, the post office was open for use in 1939. Voted by Smithsonian Institution amongst ten most beautiful post offices in state, the building also features artworks by WPA artists are based on local history.
