A few months ago, after a long day of working from home (read: staring down at my laptop for hours on end), I noticed something new in the mirror. A set of horizontal lines on my neck, or "tech neck" as they say. Sure, I've dealt with the occasional hormonal acne breakout on my neck or an eczema flare-up, but seeing a set of wrinkles was whole new territory. Suddenly, I started researching how to get rid of neck wrinkles and prevent more from forming, leading to a medicine cabinet filled with the best neck-firming creams.

But I quickly learned that not every neck-firming cream will help reduce fine lines and tech neck-induced wrinkles. Some are great for hydrating and soothing (which can lead to wrinkles down the line), while others actually contain smoothing actives, like retinol and collagen-stimulating peptides , to help smooth lines and tighten skin.

So, to help you narrow down all the options, Cosmo's beauty team tested dozens of neck creams on our own skin and chatted with board-certified dermatologist Shereene Idriss for her recommendations on what to look for in a formula to bring you a curated list of the best neck creams.

1) U Beauty The SCULPT Neck + Décolleté Concentrate Serum

Why we love it:This neck and décolleté serum from U-Beauty is formulated to smooth, hydrate, and sculpt the skin with peptides and hyaluronic acid. Since I'm 26 and doing this more as a preventive step than correcting, I'm definitely comforted by the fact that I'm proactively getting into this area sooner rather than later.

One Cosmo editor says: "I always rubbed my remaining serums and moisturizer from my face down into the area, so I only recently started using a dedicated neck product. And this one from U-Beauty was the first one I finished from start to finish. It leaves my neck feeling nice and hydrated overnight." —JASMINE HYMAN, ASSISTANT BEAUTY EDITOR

2) medicube PDRN Collagen Gua Sha Neck Wrinkle Cream

Why we love it:This viral neck cream has been making its rounds on TikTok, and its ingredient list is just as noteworthy as its built-in gua sha applicator. The formula combines niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, PDRN, and a blend of peptides to target fine lines and firmness while keeping the skin hydrated. It also contains Volufiline, a K-beauty-loved ingredient which helps plump the skin.

One Cosmo editor says:"It's rare that I'm actually using my gua sha every night with my full skincare routine, but this multitasking tube makes it super seamless to get a nice sculpt in while loading up my neck with peptides, PDRN, and all the best beloved K-beauty ingredients."—JH

3) Nécessaire The Neck Serum

Why we love it:Both team Cosmo and Dr. Idriss is a fan of this serum's featherweight texture. "This neck-firming serum has a combination of five different peptides, such as argireline, to help smooth visible wrinkles, as well as a slew of others to increase collagen production which can improve skin's firmness and elasticity." The formula is also fragrance-free, so it's safe for sensitive skin types.

One Cosmo editor says:"TBH, most days I'd rather just incorporate this lightweight neck serum into my routine than a whole rich cream. I love how thin and light it feels on my skin, but because it's chock-full of firming peptides and soothing niacinamide, it still makes my neck look and feel v smooth. And because it's so sheer, it doesn't pill or get goopy when I layer it with other products, like another cream from this list."—BETH GILLETTE, BEAUTY EDITOR

4) MAELOVE Forever Firm Neck Treatment

Why we love it:If your neck is showing signs of fine lines, crepiness, or loss of firmness, Maelove's Forever Firm Neck Treatment is designed to target all three. The formula combines peptides with moisturizing ingredients like ceramides and shea butter to help smooth and hydrate. It also contains licorice extract to help brighten the appearance of uneven tone.

One Cosmo editor says:"When I turned 34 earlier this year, I told myself I'd be better about taking care of my neck, but I've since fallen off the bandwagon. So many neck creams either feel thick or greasy or end up making my delicate neck skin red and peely. Maelove's Forever Firm Neck Treatment is the exception. It's fast-absorbing and doesn't pill, so I actually don't mind using it and the blend of peptides firms and plumps without causing irritation." —LAUREN BALSAMO, BEAUTY DIRECTOR

5) RoC Derm Correxion Advanced Retinol Firming Serum Stick

Why we love it:"The most tried and true ingredient to firm the skin on your neck is retinol," says Dr. Idriss, which happens to be the gold-star ingredient in this neck serum stick from RoC. "Retinols speed up cell turnover in your skin, which helps smooth texture and fine lines and boosts collagen production to make skin look tighter and more plump," she says. The stick format also makes it so easy to swipe on, so much so that it earned itself a Cosmo Holy Grail Award.

One Cosmo editor says: "I have a pretty gnarly tech neck these days, so I'm forcing myself to treat my skin more kindly, so I rub this drugstore stick on a few days a week. It takes legit two seconds to do, but leaves my skin feeling smooth and even helps with collagen production over time."—BG

6) SkinMedica Neck Correct Neck and Décolleté Cream

Why we love it:SkinMedica's neck treatment is designed to help skin look smoother, firmer, and more youthful. The formula combines peptides and plant extracts to target the appearance of fine lines and loss of firmness, while hydrating ingredients help keep the neck soft and moisturized. It also contains antioxidants to help protect the skin from environmental stressors, which is always a plus in our book.

One Cosmo editor says:"I love a host of SkinMedica's skincare products, and this is the only thing I've tried that visibly smooths my neck lines. It firms and tightens but doesn't feel sticky or tacky like other neck creams I've tried." —LB

7) Do neck-tightening creams work?

"Neck-tightening creams can work, when made with the right ingredients," says Dr. Idriss. "But it isn't a quick fix if you already have sagging skin or fine lines." Keep in mind: Your neck generally starts to show signs of aging (fine lines, wrinkles, loose skin) quicker than your face because the skin in that area is so thin.

8) Is it possible to tighten a saggy neck?

It is possible to tighten a saggy neck, but it will take active ingredients like retinoids, in-office procedures, and consistency. "Saggy skin happens naturally as we age, because your neck skin is naturally very thin," says Dr. Idriss. "However, it can also occur from your posture, including what we call 'tech neck,' which happens from constantly crouching over your phone and computer, potentially causing your skin to lose elasticity and develop deep horizontal lines."

At home, the best options for treating a saggy neck are retinol-based creams, which speed up cell turnover and boost collagen to help smooth skin. Or you can try a cream filled with collagen boosters, like retinol, peptides, or AHAs that increase collagen production to help plump up fine lines and wrinkles.

Meanwhile, in-office procedures utilize heat to create micro-wounds in your skin to trigger collagen production and skin regeneration, which can make your skin look tighter. Some options include microneedling with radiofrequency (like Vivace or Morpheus8 ), which combines stamping your face with ultra-fine needles to create wounds that kickstart collagen, along with radiofrequency heat that goes deep into your skin to help firm and tighten.

Or you can try a skin-tightening laser, like Clear + Brilliant and Fraxel , which use wavelengths of light to majorly smooth the top layer of your skin and jumpstart collagen and elastin production to make your skin look firm and tight. It will take a few sessions (just like with all of these treatments) to see results, so check with your dermatologist first on pricing and how many appointments you'll need.

9) How to choose the best neck-firming cream

Look for collagen-promoting ingredients.

If you want to smooth and firm your neck, you should absolutely look for a cream that features collagen-building actives, like peptides, retinol, and AHAs. FWIW, every option on this list features peptides, which can help smooth your skin over time. But if you want to put your collagen production into overdrive, definitely opt for a retinol-based neck cream three nights a week.

Consider the richness.

Some neck creams are loaded with really rich moisturizers like shea butter. This is great if you want lots of hydration and a smooth, plump look (especially if you've got dry skin) .But if you're prone to acne or irritation—or it's 100 degrees outside—you may want something on the lighter side, like the Necessaire Neck Serum , which has a lighter consistency.
