When it comes to buying items for our home during the Labor Day weekend sales , our team is leaning towards practicality and function. Don't get us wrong, we love treating ourselves to trinkets and support the " little treat economy" mindset, but right now, we all seem to want products that make our busy lives slightly easier or feel more comfortable.
Whether it be a plush new bathrobe, a candle we can burn while we work from home, or even robot vacuums, our editors are stocking up on sale items that will make our spaces infinitely more beautiful and tidy for the new season ahead. Not surprisingly, many of the sale items we're coveting also land squarely in the hosting realm, be it a pretty wood salad bowl or a wreath for the front door. With the holidays inching closer, we're all thinking of small ways to decorate our homes for the influx of family and friends dropping by.
Ahead, see what our editors are shopping for on Labor Day. Perhaps our list will inspire you to add a few more items to your own checkout cart.
1) Crate & Barrel Madeira 14" Walnut-Finished Acacia Wood Salad Serving Bowl
"I've been wanting a wooden salad bowl for a while now, so I can stop serving leafy greens in my heavy glass bowl that I also use for baking. It doesn't look cute on the table, and it's heavy to pass around! I like the little foot on this one, the wide rim to show off my farmers market greens, and the deep walnut finish." — Marina Liao, Senior Commerce Editor
2) Literie
All You Can Pick Duo
"The autumn equinox is just around the corner, and I run an anti-pumpkin spice household. But that doesn't mean I don't want some fall ambience: I just prefer wineries and apple orchards to the pumpkin patch. Literie candles are great at capturing a specific location's scent (their hot roasted nut cart scent is a dream for New Yorkers). I'm snagging their All You Can Pick candle duo while it's on sale. My home will be filled with apple cider, sage, and wild fennel notes perfect for the season." —Janae McKenzie, Associate Shopping Editor
3) The Citizenry Sateen Duvet Cover
"The Citizenry's Sateen Duvet Cover is such an elegant bedding choice. I have it (and the matching shams) in the Willow colorway, and because there's a slight shimmer, it makes my bedroom feel more ethereal. I love how it feels too, as I can use it in both summer and winter." —Meghan Shouse, Digital Editor
4) Made In
Tabletop Set
"I have four of the blue plates from Made In and wish I had bought the whole set, which is now conveniently on sale for Labor Day weekend. Unlike my ceramic plates, these glazed china ones never show fork scratches, and stains don't cling to them. They are also both microwave- and dishwasher-safe. The blue rim adds a touch of color to make them interesting but feel classic enough that I can keep them for years." — Marina Liao, Senior Commerce Editor
5) Crate & Barrel Swan Table Lamp by Laura Harrier and Tiffany Howell
"Laura Harrier and Tiffany Howell's Crate & Barrel collab has won over my Art Deco-loving heart. The whole collection oozes glamour, and one of my favorite pieces is this swan lamp. Rather than being a cheesy shape of a literal swan, it has this swooping glass shade that's so elegant and ideal to leave on display in a bedroom or on a mantel. I wouldn't mind taking 20 percent off the price."— Janae McKenzie, Associate Shopping Editor
6) Lulu and Georgia Norma 6-Drawer Dresser
"Despite my husband's handiwork, our bedroom dresser is a hop, skip, and jump away from being inoperable. I'm sick and tired of tiptoeing around a piece of furniture, so I'm officially on the hunt for a new dresser that's spacious, chic, and on sale. Lulu and Georgia always nails that sweet spot between form and function—and the Norma dresser is officially on my radar. The six drawers offer ample room for our clothes while the squiggly detail is downright whimsical. Oh, and it's 30 percent off? I'm sold." —Kelsey Mulvey, Contributing Writer
7) TWOPAGES Smart Motorized Plain Roman Shade Cordless
"Because my NYC apartment is littered with window AC units, I knew I needed Roman shades rather than curtains so I could easily have the air on without the flow being blocked by heavy draperies—and TWOPAGES came to my rescue. You can read my entire review on these excellent motorized Roman shades, but let me reiterate just how high-quality they feel. They're relatively easy to set up, and you can start using them after just a little charge. Right now, TWOPAGES is offering 22 percent off sitewide with the code LABOR at checkout, so if you've been on the fence, consider this your sign." —Meghan Shouse, Digital Editor
8) Coop Home Goods Original Adjustable Pillow
"I take pride in the fact that I have an impressive hosting setup in my one-bedroom apartment: an auto-inflating air mattress with a pillowtop cover, high-quality sheets, and this pillow, which is constantly raved about by visiting friends and family. It's very soft and lofty, and once the fill is adjusted to your preferred level, it feels like it was made for you." —Melanie Yates, Senior Digital Editor
9) West Elm Floral Vine Table Runner
"I have a yellow table runner from West Elm that has seen better days, so I'm looking for a similar option to replace it with. I love the golden and brown floral print on this one because my dining table is dark brown, so there will be contrast. I feel like I can use this runner year-round, too." — Marina Liao, Senior Commerce Editor
10) Pottery Barn
Lit Ghosts Wreath
"I realize that there are a few more weeks of summer to go, but I'm ready for all things fall. I've been wanting a Halloween wreath for the house, and this ring of ghosts will look so perfect on my charcoal-gray front door. I love that it's pre-lit and 24 inches wide, so all of my trick-or-treaters will be able to see it from the street!" — Jessica Dukes, Commerce Editor
11) Anthropologie Mystic Halloween Icon Juice Glass
"I am truly obsessed with the icon juice glasses at Anthro. They bring fun and whimsy with just the right amount of personality to my glass cabinet, which is far duller than my mug cabinet. The Halloween rendition is exactly what I am craving right now!" —Alyssa Khan, Assistant Editor
12) Parachute Soft Rib Towels
"I test bedding and bath products for a living, and these Parachute towels I tested two years ago are still the reigning champ in my book. The soft rib bath sheets completely envelop my body in quick-drying, plush material, and every other bath towel feels a little rougher by comparison. It's half the price right now in the Pebble colorway, so I'm stocking up." —Janae McKenzie, Associate Shopping Editor
13) Oasis Ambients
"I recently added an Oasis Ambient light and a single standard light bulb to my living room, and they have transformed the space. We have a few articles on how impactful the right lighting can be on a space, but now I have actual proof of my own. I wish I wasn't a Big Light person, but my poor eyesight has made me one for so long until now. These small additions emit just enough light so I don't have to turn on our overhead light fixture, and I love that they're programmable. For Labor Day, Oasis is having a 10 percent off everything sale with double discounts for bundles, like this pack of four Ambients." —Meghan Shouse, Digital Editor
14) Brooklinen Dreamweave Waffle Robe
"If your bathrobe hangs behind your bedroom door like mine, it's something you're looking at every day. Either it makes you feel excited to ditch your 'day clothes' and get cozy for the night, or it feels tired and drab. I love the texture of waffle bath towels, so this waffle robe from Brooklinen is just an excuse to stay bundled up in this airy, expensive-feeling material for even longer. It comes in an impressive range of colors and some very fun flannel-esque patterns—perfect for fall." —Melanie Yates, Senior Digital Editor
15) Serena & Lily
Riviera Rattan Bar & Counter Stools
"I just moved to an apartment with a kitchen island, and I've had my eye on Serena and Lily's Riviera rattan stools for years. They look straight out of a beach bar, and I absolutely love the woven texture. The only problem is narrowing down which color I want—I'm currently leaning toward the black for a cool contrast against the light-toned legs." —Blair Donovan, Digital Director
16) West Elm Alman Overarching Floor Lamp (65")
"After five years, my living room lamp is on its last leg, so I've been waiting for the ideal time to buy a new one. I've been eyeing this one from West Elm for a while because my current lamp is also overarching and has fit my space perfectly all these years—so now that the black finish is on sale (which just so happens to match other accents in my space), it feels like a sign." — Cristina Corvino, Deputy Managing Editor
17) Dreame Matrix10 Pro Robot Vacuum
"Aside from a mattress or sofa, another major purchase you should wait to buy until a holiday weekend is a robot vacuum. What sets the Dreame Matrix10 Pro apart from other vacuums is its multi-mop switching dock, which can automatically swap between different mop pads depending on the type of cleaning you need. This makes so much sense to me because I have hardwood floors but then tiles in my bathroom! The robot vacuum also has all the other features I typically love, including an auto-empty dustbin and washing the mops with hot water." —Marina Liao, Senior Commerce Editor
18) Anthropologie Cotton Percale Printed Bed Skirt
"The more I clean my space to welcome autumn, the more I realize: it's been a minute since I swapped my bedskirt. Swapped, not washed. Please wash your linens, people. As we wade into cozier weather and design schemes, my current eyelet lace just won't make sense against the heavier bedding that will replace my beloved summer quilts, but this beauty from Anthropologie is perfect. Sturdy enough to carry the visual weight of a plush duvet, yet dainty enough to match my cottage/fairycore aesthetic with its bright floral pattern, I have this in my cart, but I need it in my home ASAP." —Alyssa Khan, Assistant Editor
19) Beautiful Mae Vanity by Drew Barrymore with Hinged Mirror
"I recently got this 2-in-1 vanity desk from Drew Barrymore's Beautiful line, and it's so chic, I'm getting a second one. My niece just moved into a new family home, and she's the most stylish person in the family. This is perfect for her budding tween taste. Modern enough to feel grown-up, without paying designer prices. There's a hidden mirror, storage, and a built-in power station to charge all her favorite devices." —Janae McKenzie, Associate Shopping Editor
20) Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal 2-In-1 Vac & Mop
"My robotic vacuum conked out earlier this year, so I've been searching for the perfect replacement. Topping my list is this nifty option from Shark. Not only does this option have a vacuum and mop setting—so I can save a lot of time cleaning my floors—but it also comes in a bunch of pretty jewel tones. There's also a nice metallic fluting detail, so dare I say this is the chicest robotic vacuum on the market?" —Kelsey Mulvey, Contributing Writer
