BOGO Snowboards—Signal Launching Sale This Memorial Day Weekend

It's Memorial Day Weekend in the United States, and that means snowboards are being sold at a discount.

There are sales going on from big dogs like Evo, Backcountry, and REI, as well as local stores like Donut Shoppe, Erik's, and Darkside. Brands like Burton and Bataleon are hosting sales on their own website, and free shipping discounts are everywhere.

But only one brand has a deal as good as buy-one-get-one free.

Signal

Signal Snowboards, the smaller rider-owned-and-operated brand with a retail space in New York City, is giving a free snowboard of equal or lesser value to anyone who buys one from its online store.

"For the homie that still borrows gear," the marketing material says on its website.

The choices include two different splitboards – the Tailgunner – Deep State and the LOL. There are also two different versions of Yuki Kadono's pro model available, and the Gutter Phoenix Park Pro.

Dave Lee and artist Kellie Talbot co-founded Signal back in 2005. Boards are manufactured in Huntington Beach, California. It was rider Kyle Mack's board sponsor when he won an Olympic silver medal in Big Air at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. Past team riders have included John Jackson, Jake Olson-Elm, and Jake Aaronson.

This isn't the first time that Signal has zagged when others in the industry have zigged. Back in 2016, it introduced the first-ever snowboard subscription service. It was a new way for consumers to buy new snowboards at a low monthly payment while being part of the online Signal Snowboard community, and allowed members to purchase a board for $35 a month, along with extras like warranty, demo programs, and strong customer service that gives subscribers a direct line to the brand. The model didn't exactly last, but it was ahead of its time, as brands have since leaned into it thanks to financial technology companies like Affirm and Klarna.

Signal has a retail space that recently opened in NYC, offering an event space, meetups, and even a run club.

For 10 years, Signal ran its "Every Third Thursday" video series on YouTube. The concept was to come up with fun, creative ideas and connect viewers to the process.

You can watch all of those videos here.
