As a bookworm, is there anything better than a free book? As the GH books editor (and head of the GH Book Club ), my TBR is more than long enough already, but I can never say no to one more read to add to the pile. If you love diving into a new story, Amazon has your back with not one but two free e-books this month.
All you have to do is be an Amazon Prime member and take advantage of their First Reads program.
What is Amazon First Reads?
Amazon Prime has benefits like free shipping and easy returns, but it also offers several perks for readers. Prime members always have access to Prime Reading , a huge digital library with thousands of free books, magazines, comics, and more available to download. Members can also participate in First Reads, a program that offers 8 new e-books every month that are available for Prime members to download for free.
These are books that haven't been published yet ,giving Amazon members exclusive access to be one of the first readers—hence the name!
What are the free e-books?
Prime members can choose one e-book from the selection of eight titles on First Reads to be their first free book for the month. The second free e-book is a "bonus read" chosen by Amazon that all First Reads participants will receive.
The e-book choices for August include a psychological thriller, book club fiction, historical fiction, police procedural, epic fantasy, contemporary romance, memoir/humor, and mystery.
This month's bonus title is a short story called "The Spider Silk Scarf" by Ana Reyes . It's an Amazon Original story about a young woman who steals a scarf made of black widows' silk from her mysterious neighbor—who turns out to be a witch.
How do I claim my free e-books?
First, make sure you're an Amazon Prime member to be eligible for the First Reads program. Next, you either need a Kindle to read the book on, or the free Kindle app loaded on your smartphone.
To get your e-books, go to the First Reads landing page and choose your favorite title from the eight options. (Note: To make sure you get the book for free, select it via a web browser, and not via the Kindle or Amazon app.) You'll receive both your chosen title and the month's bonus read. When you choose your book, click "Read for Free" and not "Pre-Order Now."
If you can't decide which title to choose, don't worry—you can purchase additional First Reads books at $1.99 each if two free e-books just isn't enough.
