I Tested Over 200 Pillows and This Is Still the One I Sleep On Every Night

I have tested over 200 pillows in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab since 2018 and the Coop Home Goods Original Loft Pillow is the best pillow I've ever tested in Lab—and my personal favorite. What is the Coop Pillow?

It's a hybrid pillow filled with a combination of memory foam pieces and microfiber clusters for the ideal balance of plushness and support. You can add and remove fill to easily adjust the height and firmness of the pillow, making this a great pick for all sleeping positions.

Unlike most pillows made with memory foam, the Coop is entirely machine washable. Just make sure to take the cover off then put both the cover and inner pillow into the washing machine. It can also be placed in the dryer on low.

Why the Coop Pillow is my favorite pillow

As soon as I tried this pillow, I knew it was different. The mix of plush down alternative with memory foam pieces gives it a great mix of support and fluffiness.I sleep on my side, so I need plenty of neck support. It took me a few tries to find the right height by adding and removing fill. I like that this pillow comes with an extra bag of stuffing in case you like a very thick and full pillow like I do.

I've been using this pillow for five years and still haven't found a pillow I like more. I am always testing new pillow launches and still looking forward to going back to my Coop pillow afterwards.

How the Coop Pillow held up in Lab testing

This pillow performed well in every single Lab test. It had a perfect score for ease of use and performance, so it fit perfectly in a standard size pillowcase and returned quickly to its original shape after weights were applied. I like that you can wash both the cover and fill of this pillow to get a superior clean. I washed this pillow's cover and fill five times and assessed if it showed signs of shrinkage or changes in appearance. While this pillow did not shrink, the cover did show very slight fuzziness and pilling after five washes. I recommend always using a pillowcase to extend the life of your pillows.

How we test pillows

GH fiber scientists have tested hundreds of pillows in the Textiles Lab with hundreds more consumer testers trying them at home, adding up to thousands of data points. In the Lab, our pros first evaluate each pillow's care label to see how easy they are to clean (PSA: some are not machine washable!), then we wash them five times to see whether they'll actually hold up to laundering. We also look at how well they fit into a pillowcase and we perform support and recovery tests that mimic the pressure from your head lying on it all night: A weight is left on the pillow for an extended period then we measure how quickly it returns to its original shape.
